positive MRI-negative LP - Multiple Sclerosis Message Board

Anyone with MS have a positive brain MRI but had a negative lumbar puncture? Just wondering if you can have MS and not show up on a LP.

that is what happened with me. lesions showed up in brain but my LP came back neg. Doc said mild case at this point.

Yes same here. My neuro gave me a diagnosis of MS based my symptoms. He said this not uncommon because of the difficulty of diagnosing this disease. He presented me with a 9 symptoms and I had 7 of the nine. I have 3 lesions on my brain, one near my optic nerver which causes my right eye to continuously twitch. He is going to start me on some kind of IV steroid therapy to try to shrink the lesions and perhaps eleviate some of my symptoms.

That would be me also.............MRI showed white spots, LP came back neg. Have lots of symptoms since last Oct. Been to many different Doctors and have had many tests. All other tests have been neg as well. No dx yet............Deb

thanks for responding. No diagnosis for me either yet. Neuro will do another MRI in a year. I have 9 lesions on the brain MRI. I wonder if you can have lesions for no reason. Any ideas? My neuro isnt ready to confirm diagnosis yet, just have left sided face numbness and legs ache and feel heavy sometimes. Are those symptoms? This is all new to me!!!!!!!
