Nasal Congestion? - Multiple Sclerosis Message Board

I have been reading all I can on this message board. I have noticed a few people mentioning nasal congestion. Does that have anything to do with MS?

Some MS patients and neurologists believe there is a tangential connection sbetween MS and other problems like cold sores, mouth sores, sinus problems etc.

I have had nasal problems ever since before my dx. I thought I had a cold or sinus problems in March when all of this started ... then I started getting all the MS signs and thought I had a middle ear infection. Boy was I surprised! I still have problems with my nose running like a fauset or stopped up at night when I try to sleep ... it goes away as fast as it comes on.

OK, up to now I hadn't thought my mysterious summer cold that won't completely go away, including an inner ear thing, was worth mentioning. My friend suggested it all might be related but I refused to entertain the thought. Please, you're kidding, right?

Here's my two cents....I have had the same issues and have been treated literally for YEARS for "chronic sinus problems." Guess what? The several - and I do mean SEVERAL- MRI's & CT Scans I had during the dx process showed perfectly healthy sinuses.

The ENT suggested migraine events may be to blame...which often accompany MS. He gave me Imitrex...which really helped when the symptoms began to kick in.

And lilc...my internist even thought I might have Meneire's Disease because I kept having ear-infection symptoms, but no "infection." I spent just over 7 weeks on high powered antibiotics trying to get rid of something that was never there. Better mention your symptoms to your neuro as well as your GP. MS can compromise the immune system and you really may just have a cold that's dragging out...
