Darkened vision - Multiple Sclerosis Message Board

Hi all...a vision question for you: I know vision disturbances are common with MS, I've read up about all of that. But what I have not found are any instances of darkened vision in one eye, such as having a sunglasses lens over just one eye......or losing vision completely in one eye for several minutes after going abruptly from light to dark, such as when turning out the lights for bed. Anyone experience these things? What have you done for it...just wait it out?

OMG! I experience this EXACT thing all the time! (It's really bad when going into a movie theater because my eyes won't adjust. Everything is just black. I have to stand in the back for a good ten minutes or more before finding a seat.)

I'm thinking it must have something to do with the optic nerve and the rods and cones that create color-perception or color-blindness. Surely that's part of the same dysfunction?

Hey Lisa P! Thanks for the response. This HAS to be MS-related. I won't see the neuro till June 30. I'll be asking about this and will post again with his comments.

I don't have the problem in movie theaters because my eyes have time to adjust. At home, when it's lights-out for bed, it's a whole other story. It's both annoying and scary.

I have had the problem for YEARS...but no other symptoms...and no optometrist could figure it out. I notice now that it takes my eye (right one) longer to adjust....

This same thing happens to me. When going to my son's college orientation a few weeks ago we were seated in a large auditorium where the lights were dimmed. The lights (to me) looked as if someone was playing with the dimmer switch. It would get really dark and then lighten up starting peripherally.

I haven't had ON but for a day, about 10 years ago, so this is new to me.
