Positive ANA--do you have it?
I as just curious as if most people here dx w/MS have a positive ANA or not?

Hello,

Although a positive ANA can mean many different things - from what I know, MS is not one of the things generally associated with ANA.

Generally if you have a positive ANA and MS like symptoms you will be referred to a Rheumetologist for LUPUS testing. My sister has lupus so this is on thing they tested me for over and over...also other substantial testing done by the rheumie to make ABSOLUTELY sure since it has genetic links like MS

Yes I have a positive ana. I've had MS for 20 years and last year was the first time that I had my ana checked. It wasn't real high. If I remember correctly it was 160. Lupus testing was negative.

You're not dumb. You just haven't been around this block before.

ANA stands for 'antinuclear antibodies.' This blood test is done to detect certain rheumatic diseases, especially lupus. If you have a positive ANA it means there is an inflammatory process going on in the body.

Has anybody else had fluctuations in their ANA lab results? One time I tested borderline and another time it was within normal limits.

My sister has actually been diagnosed with Lupus and her ANA fluxuates as well. She said sometimes they will test it and it still will come back negative.

Thanks for the reply - still learng all the lingo - I had all my "testing" done with in 48 hours and was on IV thereapy within a week - so now I'm just ready to learn about all that was done!
