I went to my PCP today. She has been on vacation. She agrees that I have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. The Neurologist/Opthamologist I went to wasn’t all that specific about how he read my MRI, but he was quite sure. I have MS, and he has suggested that I see a neurologist that handles that sort of thing.
I believe what I am going to do is ask for a 2nd opinion with a Neurologist that specializes in MS. My PCP told me that I could do the research, and select any Neurologist I want, and she’ll write a referral. She works for a teaching hospital, and she told me that she doesn’t believe that I would be happy with their MS specialists. I found that interesting. She indicated that they weren’t all that thrilled with patients who do their own research, and ask lots of questions. I think that she is a good judge of my character.
Sounds like you have a good PCP, Marion! How can any doctor in his or her right mind, in this day and age of easy access to information, expect a patient "not" to do their own research? LOL! Don't dummy-up for anybody...go get that second opinion!
Oh, I don't know, Kelli. Like I said, I have not been seeing her for long. My instincts say she's a light-weight. Since I think I have MS, and the Neurologist thinks I have MS, she agrees that she thinks I have MS. What I want to know is if an MS doctor thinks I have MS. I'm certainly not going to put all those heavy-duty, nasty drugs in my body without having an iron-clad diagnosis with an iron-clad 2nd opinion.
