Is it unusual to get very bad headache a day AFTER LP and for it to get worse each day? Have tried 800 mg ibuprophen and Advil Migrane (not at the same time) but it barely touches pain. Neck sore now, too.
That's one I can't answer, but I am here to nag, er uh...encourage you to call the neuro! Don't wait. Sometimes a worsening headache is an indication that the puncture did not completely seal and spinal fluid is slowly leaking.
Don't worry! Your body will replace the fluid - if that iswhat's going on - and the "leak" is easily repaired....just don't let it go on and on...
When I had my LP I felt awful the next day, could not look at bright light wanted to cover my eyes my head hurt so much, had headache like I have been hit with a lump of 2b4 and my back hurt, this went on for a few days, doctors said it was normal. Not nice but it will ease off keep your chin up.
Lilac, sorry for your unneeded pain. When I had my LP done I was in the hospital and the dr. told me not to raise my head for 24 hours ... I had to lay absolutely flat. He had told me if I didn't I would get a real bad headache. I did just what the dr. told me and didn't have any problems or pain afterwards! Hope your headaches get better.
I had terribile headaches after a LP years ago becus i didnt listen to doctors who said LAY DOWN FLAT for hours after the LP. I think the headaches lasted several days; call y our doctor to see if there's anything else you can do about it, but otherwise you may have to tough it out. Good luck.
Hope you're feel better soon. I had 3 spinal taps back in the late 60's - early 70's (In Chicago) and they weren't fun at all! (Very primitive back then. They strapped to you a board upside down and the pain was unbelieveable!) I was told to lay flat for 24-48 hours and with two of them, I still became violently ill with headaches and vomiting. I don't recall the drinking water part though. Hang in there!
