My goodness,
I've been in an exacerbation for over 2 months now and for the last couple days, my legs have just been goin downhill. I'm on naproxen, motrin and vicodin but find no relief. I'm moving VERY slowly even with my cane and have resigned myself to the fact that I'll probably need to use a wheelchair when we go on vacation at the end of the month (going with several friends on a gambling junket to Mississippi!), as the casinos are just too big to walk through. It's just a big bummer! Don't see my neuro until Oct! My primary doc is very helpful , but I guess there's just not too much more they can do. And, I'm SOOOO tired! Goodnite everyone!
I'm so sorry to hear you are having such a difficult time. I used to love trips to Las Vegas and walking through the huge casinos but I can't walk those long distances any more either. Last year I was at the Caesars hotel in Vegas and realized half way in that I couldn't make it out! I had to sit and rest for a while and finally made it out little bits at a time. I remember at the time wishing I had a scooter to get around (much as I hated the idea too!). It is a tough transition but I really don't want to give up the fun of Vegas just because my legs won't travel very far. So get yourself a chair or a scooter and have lots of fun on your trip! Hope its grand! Take care - Sharon Grace
Thanks Sharon Grace,
I too go to Las Vegas a couple times a year, but have been staying on the downtown area for the past several years because the casinos are smaller. I am going to look into getting one of those scooters real soon, and today I'll be calling our casino host in Mississippi to make sure she has a chair waiting for me. I just hate to be a burden to my husband and friends, but they all tell me not to be so silly, that that's what they're there for. They're truly are great people. It's just my stupid pride getting in the way! I hate to ask for help, you know? Do you have one of those scooters? If so, was the cost covered by insurance? Thanks again
Hi Fancycanelady,
Sorry to hear that your exacerbations are not getting any better. Are you still not taking any of the crab meds? Is there another doctor from a larger town you could go see? I think it would be worth it to go somewhere where they can help you now, waiting until Oct. is crazy! I really worry about you especially, since you keep getting worse.
I hope you have a good time on your vacation.
Hi Fancycanelady! No, I don't own a scooter, but I have thought about looking into one. I think if your doctor writes an order for one, some insurance plans will cover it. Your best bet is to call your insurance company and see what they will or won't cover. I have heard that in Vegas you can rent a scooter, but I don't know who to contact. Do the hotels arrange them? I will probably need one for my next trip. And remember - it's ok to get some help from friends and family. We always hate admitting we need help but I am slowly learning to accept it gracefully. Take Care - Sharon Grace
