Update on Husband - Sound like your experience?? - Multiple Sclerosis Message Board

I posted a couple weeks ago about my husband. His right side went all numb/weak/loss of balance suddenly at work. Well, after MRI, MRA, blood tests, CT scan, even x-rays he finally got sent to a great nuro. at Loyola - in Chicago.

The MRI did show a 30-40% blockage in one of his arteries and an abnormality on the clivus. The nuro said that the blockage is nothing to worry about and that the abnormality is just a veign growing in his bony structure. But he said he wants my husband to have another MRI of his neck and spine. So he has that today. The nuro said without seeing the leassions he is not going to dx MS, or without having a second 'episode' of these symptoms.

My husband is also doing physical therapy and it is helping him to regain his strength and balance on his right side. But his head is still numb. Anyone else do physical therapy and see some imporvements?

Anyone have leasions show up in neck or spine and not in brain??

First and foremost I am very sorry about the stresses that both you and you husband are going through. I hope that you both find some answers soon though!

Well, I will let you know that I was struggling to find a reason for many strange happening within my body for many years. The first neuro I saw said that there were not "enough" lesions in my brain to officially dx as MS. I was then so frustrated that I gave up on doctors for a couple of years and decided to just deal with my problems on my own.

Then, I happened to throw my back out during that time and was sent to a neurosurgeon that specialized in spinal problems.

He sent me for lumbar and cervical MRIs of my spinal column. This is where they found the majority of my lesions. So this is why I usually recommend requesting an MRI of the spinal area to those whose doctors are ready to "give-up" after a brain MRI is inconclusive.

After I had my spinal MRI I was officially dxed only 4 days thereafter. This is because the neurosurgeon knew exactly what he was looking at in the MRI and referred my to an MS specialist.
