Red face throat problems!!! Please HELP!!!

Hi,

I've heard that with MS you can have swallowing problems. I've been experiencing lots of **** (don't know what else to call it) and feeling of throat closing up on me. Is this normal with MS? Or do you think that it is a sinus problem? I've had sinus trouble before but I have never felt anything like this before. Why can't we have just one symptom at a time? I have this throat problem and severe lightheadedness and a severe headache and my hands and feet hurt really bad. Enough is enough!!! Just wondering though about the throat issue. Please help!!!

Michelle

Re: throat problems!!!

Hi Shellymay,

I too was having "trouble" swallowing. The oly real way to know is to tell your doc and they may want you to have a swallow study. It's not bad, I had one last week. Are you getting choked at all? The main thing is to make sure you aren't aspirating any liquids of foods into your lungs. It can also be a sign of GI problems. I'm not trying to scare you really, but it is important to find out. And, it could all be realted to sinus. My MRI that I had week before last showed a new leison AND a really nasty sinus inf. that I didn't even know I had , I guess because of all the numbness in my face, mouth, and throat. Now that I have been on antibiotics for almost a week. The swallowing issues have started to clear up. Hope it gets better soon and that this post helped. Wishing you the best. Sue

Re: throat problems!!!

I have experienced throat problems with MS. A sensation of having a 'lump' in my throat, or my throat closing up on me. Terrifying. The medical profession for years labelled it as 'Globeous Hystericus' - oh how they love to blame ones mind when they do not have a clue as to what is wrong. Anyway it turns out that my problem is actually related to two things - firstly due to the MS my esophegeal sphincter does not shut and therefore allows all the acid to flow back up and burn my esophegeus and throat - Gastro Esophegeal Reflux Disease. This was determined by a Gastroscopy and a Barium Meal. This in itself irritates and can create the lump feeling. Secondly I am allergic to Dimethicone (silicone) which is in a lot of beauty products and hair products. Whenever I put something on my face containing this ingredient I start to tingle, get a fat feeling tongue and a lump in my throat. This was confirmed by an Allergy Specialist.

Good luck with this one. Leave no stone unturned.
