I know that when the numbness occurs with MS it's normally in the limbs, but has anyone ever had numbness on just the right side of the face to include part of the inner ear and just the right side of the tongue? It's weird....
I really want to say that I've pinched a nerve where my jaw has been seperated. (It was an accident when I was a toddler and my parents didn't see the need to re-break my jaw to fix it, so every so often it get misaligned)
I'm stubborn about going to the doctor/dentist to get my jaw re-broken, but this numbness is just NOT normal.
I don't want to say that everything that I'm going through is because of MS.
Has anyone experienced a weird numbness in other parts of the body besides the usual arms an legs?
Once for about a week the left side of my mouth (inside) was numb, I couldn't taste anything on that side and when I took a drink I couldn't feel it. Which sucked because that side of my mouth always felt thirsty, and drinking didn't satisfy it. I don't know if that was an MS symptom or not, the dr. said he didn't know.
Hi Lisa...Back in April the right side of my face went numb...it was weird because it started under my eye, and only 1/2 my lip and tongue went numb as well...I was just diagnosed with MS at the end of July, and had been in a car accident back in Feb. so I thought the numbness was from the accident...turns out it wasn't..I actually drooled some when I was talking or drinking and the first few weeks I continually bit the inside of my mouth, no matter how careful I was while eating...but it finally went away...it did last about 2 months though...Hopefully yours won't last that long ...Good Luck.....Moussie21
Mine always starts with my eyes, but this last time, it was 1/2 of my face and 1/2 of the inside of my mouth that was the most numb, like I had been to the dentist. It was doubley(sp?) weird cause the outside of my right face, neck and shoulder were numb and the inside of my mouth and throat on the left side was numb. I even had a swallow study to see if I was swallowing okay, because it didn't seem like things were going down right. I sympathize with you, it's maddening. Nothing tastes right, you don't feel like you're quinching your thirst...etc. etc. Mine has been going on for a little more than a month, but is starting to ease up with major steroid treatment. Hoping for the best for you, but I think it's pretty common with a lot of ms people.
Wow...I hope this will not last as long as Moussie21's bout with facial numbness. I've found my self drooling and biting my tongue since it started last Saturday. I have a co-worker that also has been diagnosed with MS and he has never gone through this; which is why I had to ask.
The only other thing I think of is my wisdom teeth or rather tooth. It's been growing in since January/Februrary and I've both my molars taken out, so there is room for the wisdom tooth to grow. I've noticed over the months that my teeth have all shifted to make room for the wisdom tooth, but I didn't think it would numb my face.
I'm going to see my primary on Friday for other issues so I will ask him about that. He may just tell me to go to the dentist to get the wisdom tooth removed....who knows.

HI JUst thought I'd add my numbness to the list. Of course my second (nice) neuro is away for a month so won't get more diagnostic testing til Sept. (Lp evoked ptls etc) .Mine was left sided . Felt like I'd been numbed for dental procedure went all the way down left side of face and left half of tongue- even felt in couple of my front teeth. Was like you drew a line down the middle of my face to middle of lip . But so far even with a myriad of other symptoms, no diagnosis - I guess patience is a virtue with this- some people on this board have been through YEARS of the its all in your head thing. That was back in May and I just now decided that I don't care who thinks I'm a nut or what ever . My family and real friends (like the ones you have here) are the only ones who its worth talking to. Good Luck !
I too have numbness in the right side of my face. I have problems with my tongue as well now and around my eye too. It can be very frustrating and distracting. Sometimes it seems like the right side of my face is tired or asleep. (Crazy - I know!) I also tend to have alternating numbness & pain on the right side.
When this happens does anyone else have problems chewing & swallowing? It may sound weird but it has just started with this last episode. Chewing seems exhausting and swallowing seems difficult. Any advice?
