Unhappy What did I do wrong?

I can't figure it out.

Yesterday at work (I work for a radio station...totally non-strenuous unless you count the four-hours of tongue-wagging I do every day...LOL!). We had an "open house" to show off our new digs. I stood for maybe 4 hours or so...JUST standing and greeting people...no calesthenics, mind you...and was just fine until about the the 4th hour. I could no longer feel my left leg.

Two hours later..at home and at rest..it felt like someone was stabbing me in the back of my left thigh with a fork. About 4 hours after that, I was awakened by SIMULTANEOUS HARD cramping in my feet, calves, abdomen and forearms. EVERYWHERE else (except my back) had HARD pins & needles sensations- even my chinny chin chin! And there was such a harsh pain that felt it was coming from deep inside my head. It has left me SO dizzy!

Like the goofball I sometimes I am, I still got up and went into work at 5am today. Both arms are bothering me...my head feels full of deafening pressure..and it has been as though I have had an internal engine running in my body all day. I CAN'T sit still. Yet I am so exhausted.

Anyone else deal with such fun..ever? What did you do for it?

As I sat in the dark wee hours of the morning weeping (pitiful!)I thought about going to the ER...but then realized they would probably try to re-diagnose me, then test me endlessly to confirm what I told them to begin with before they would even think about treating me...and then hand me a paper all about non-cardiac-related pain, AFTER (of course!) they first suggested it might be in my head.

I know I am grouchy. I have one of those day every now and again..and I know you all understand. Thanks for "listening."

Re: What did I do wrong?

KelliD I am so sorry about all the pain that you have. Here you are just doing your job and in creeps "the MS", and punishes you for just doing what you want to do!
I went to a 4th of July party, sat the whole time, stayed about 8 hrs had lots of fun, and it took me a week to recover, I actually thought I was going into a relapse.
Listen to your body, I am thinking that it wanted to stay home today, and that is difficult because you just want to live your life.
Did taking a shower help? What about some pain relievers? Don't be hard on yourself because the MS is being a pest right now. Rest, let your body rest, it just didn't like standing for that long lol
Hope that you are "back on your feet" before you know it

Re: What did I do wrong?

KelliD,

I hear ya!! It must be so hard to have to work regular hours and deal with your sx!! I am blessed, I work on a ranch, am on part time disability, and I can go out to the horse barn and putter every morning until I know I should quit (about one hour or 90 mins) and then can come in and rest. For me, the main thing that helps is rest and only 15 mins makes a big difference. So, my guess is that you stood for too long, and that put too much exertion on your muscles or whatever. For me, I've had to really change my routine and lifestyle. I was such a hard, hard worker (on ranches)...go, go, go from one thing to another. Now, I have to rest and I HAVE to remember not to push myself that extra mile as I will only pay for it later bigtime!! It's hard to readjust, but it's better than having the paraesthesia so bad!! So, I'd suggest, if you don't mind, that you will have to look ahead at what is planned in a day, and when it encompasses something like the open house or whatever, you sit as much as possible, and you take breaks from the whole thing every now and then. Just explain that that is what you will have to do. It's my guess that you will have less of these fiery results, if you do. Is that what anyone else would suggest?

Kelli D, it's not in your head!! We all know that one!!

hugs!

Oh Sweetie, I am so sorry. Will you have a chance to rest this weekend? (You know you didn't do anything "wrong". The devil attacks when you are doing the RIGHT thing...) Praying for you tonight.

Re: What did I do wrong?

Yikes, Kelli, I certainly can't imagine having such a hard day and night as yours and then having to go into work and actually "act" like you're ok. You must be a very good actress for the physical/mental stuff you're going through to not be evident on the air.

I think we've all been through what you have and we can empathize with you. We're just doing what we have to or we feel that we're doing alright, then bam, it hits. You should see my flower garden After working all day I just don't have the energy to go out and putz around like I did earlier in the summer.

Get some rest, honey, even if it means cancelling some weekend plans. Praying that you're feeling better.

Lisa
