First dose of avonex last night... - Multiple Sclerosis Message Board

Hi!

So last night was my first injection of Avonex (I was on copaxone before). My dr. had me take a half dose to hopefully make the side effects better. I woke up in the middle of the night with a high fever and chills and just achy. Anyway - I felt a bit better when I woke up this morning so I came to work today but I still feel pretty bad - like I was hit by a truck last night! My question is how long should I expect to feel like this? Is it typically a 24 hour thing?

Wish I had a solid answer for you! It varies from person to person. I have experienced everything from no side effects, to feeling achy and feverish for 48 hours.

I agree with Kelli. I've been on Avonex for about a year now and I still get side effects. They usually last about 24 hrs though but have remained achy longer sometimes. Good luck.
p.s. I take my injection on Sat night, so I can sleep through it and have Sunday to recover.
