Hello Everyone! I had a question about MS. First of all, my mother has MS. She was diagnoised 9 years ago at the young age of 36. She is paralyzed in the right leg and is wheelchair bound. It really sucks! I feel as if she has been cheated out of life. I believe she is a very strong women and I look up to her.

I strongly believe that MS is genetic, although we don't know enough about MS to claim that it is genetic. Other than my mother who has MS, two of her uncles had/has it as well. Also my mother's sister is being tested for it right now.

My question...this may sound stupid, but here it is. I have been having a lot of sharp pain in the base of my skull/neck. It almost feels like Electric Impulses in my brain. I don't know if this is even MS related, but I though I'd ask. It doesn't happen all the time, but it has been happening a lot and has been bother some.

I'd like to know if this may be MS related or perhaps refer me to a place/link where I can understand why I'm experiencing this. I appreciate it! Thanks!!!

I've heard of people with MS experiencing pain that they compare to electricity running through them... but I've always heard of it in the arms and legs. I've never heard of anything like that in the head.

Sounds painful though! I'd definately have it checked out - even if it's not MS, it could be something serious.

Also, this whole heredity thing, research these days say that MS is weakly tied to genetics. That is people who are immediately related to someone with MS (parent, child, sibling) have a 1% higher chance of contracting it. It must be horrible luck running in your family. Then again, certian places in the world have so many more cases of it!

I have L'Hermitte's, it is often described as an "electric shock sensation down the spine" when you bend your neck forward. It also runs down arms and legs when it is real bad. It is, however, momentary - when I straighten my neck it stops. This was not the case when it first struck. For about a month I had almost constant pulsing "vibration" in my spine (mostly lower spine) that felt like a cat's purr, or my cell phone. It did not emanate from the base of my skull, however, and it was not painful.
When you consider that the central nervous system is a series of electrical circuits it tends to make you think that symptoms that feel "electrical" are related to the CNS. Definitely get it checked. I can certainly understand why you would wonder about MS given your family history, but it could also be that you are more aware of MS than the general population is. I didn't know anything at all about it until the L'Hermitte's hit.

Have you had these recently and if, would you describe them as "crawlies??"
Guess maybe you can read my symptoms and see if they are similair..
Any further diagnosis from your doctor?
