Question Medical Insurance

Ok, now that I have been dx with MS under my current health insurance, do you think I will have trouble finding another health insurance carrier? I am so confused! My husband is quiting his job Feb. 2006 because we started our own business and now that our business is getting big he needs to quit his job becasue I am having a hard time helping him with it. It's janitoral work and it takes a lot out of me. I have been running it for a year now and I can barely work 4-5 hours without help any more. Used to work 10 hour days, too tired to do that now . I am having trouble with vacuuming and mopping. It's setting off the numbness, tingling, burning pain in my arms and legs. And the buildings get hot and the heat don't help! I have not started my copaxone as of yet. Will be on it next week.

Thanks for any input,
Sheena

Re: Medical Insurance

As long as you remain insured you shouldn't have any problem. In other words, don't let one insurance lapse for a month while making the transition, if you are being treated by one insurance, It's my understanding that the new insurance cannot count that against you. But I'm not a lawyer either... I've switched insurances several times (actually I should say work changed insurance) and I've never had a problem other than the pains of redoing prescriptions and needing referrals, then not needing referrals... then back to needing them... it's always a hassle, but insurance has never thrown anything against me. Hope this helps.

Re: Medical Insurance

Sheena
Once you leave your current ins they will give you a HIPAA coverage continuation {I think that is what it is called} form that you give to your new ins carrier, that form will state your termination date with them, as long as 63 days have not passed from that term date, to your effective date with the new ins then pre existing will not be an issue. This is actually something that the Gov't has done for us, it doesn't matter if you are going from COBRA which is continuation of your current coverage that you pay the full amount for [which can get a little expensive] to a new ins.

This was my job for 15 years so I am pretty well versed in ins lingo

Have you looked into medical ins for your business? When a business is small it can be difficult and expensive to obtain med insurance, I suggest that if where you live there is a Chamber of Commerce then have your business join that, because sometimes you can obtain your ins under the chamber.

It has be very exciting running your own business and I wish you nothing but good luck with it

Also good luck with Copaxone, I have been on Avonex for just about 1 year and so far no relapses.

Hope this info helps
Steph
