I have an appointment on the 27th and need to know what kind of questions to take with me. I know to take a list of symptoms. Thanks

Re: Neuro appt. What ?'s to ask

My doctor was really cool. He had a slice by slice picture of my MRI scan available on his computer and showed me exactly where my lesions were. I asked for a print out copy and he was happy to oblige. However, i never asked for a copy of his notes and tecnical description of my MRI.

I see that a lot of people talk about T2 signals, active lesions, and such and I really do not know the specifics about my lesions. I think this would be helpful.

Therefore, I suggest you ALWAYS ask for a copy of your medical records from every doctor you visit and from every test you take from this point forward. It is much too hard to get them retroactively.

Re: Neuro appt. What ?'s to ask

I would ask about active lesions and have him explain what that means.

Also ask :
what to expect with this disease
when do you know that you are in a flare up
what meds you can take for your different symptoms
what exactly is MS, if you don't know already
ask about the meds that can be given via IV infusion for a flare
what tests they will run, blood, lumbar puncture, MRI's, cognative studies,
should you be going to PT, or a nutritionist, or a clinical therapist
ask to see the lesions on your MRI

Thats about all that I can think of, have you been diagnosed yet?
I just think that if you don't understand something that they are telling of explaining to you tell him/her, have them explain it to you in normal words, not medical terminology, just as long as you understand and are not confused, and if you need to write down what they say, keep a not***** and date the page when you are at the dr's, it will be a great reference for you, in case you start forgetting things like me and don't worry about taking too much time to write things down, you are paying for this service.
I agree that you should get copies of all your medical records, and of the interpretations from your MRI's, LP, and blood work
Good Luck
Steph
