| Re: Had my nerve conduction tests - Question
I just had a deep muscle and nerve EMG/NCS and I have had 2 standard EMG/NCS in the past year.NCS are used to see if a person has a neuropathy(some with MS have after the myelin is worn down)or a radiculopathy associated with MS but more in common with herniated disk or spinal impingement.EMG part is done to see if there is any muscle damage or disease is occuring like myopathy or ALS.
These test are subjective and sometimes getting a second opinion is good.If the Neurologist is stating no neuropathy thats great its extremely painful and managed by meds.I have radiculopathy a form of neuropathy,it is not uncommon for a person with MS to have radicular pain, but I have had 2 lumbar surgeries in the past.I have thoracic radiculopathy.
After I had the last EMG,my symptoms flaired up.The test may or may not cause the flair up, the stress thru the test sure can.
Hang in there, thats great the test is negative,I know it gets discouraging when test come back negative time after time.MS likes to play hide and seek,it will show up sooner than later if you have MS.I am not dx yet, just 99 % probable.Take one day at a time .MS is a process of elimanation.
prayers to you
