Hi!

My symptoms started 2 yrs ago with

buzzing in my ears w/ numbness in my right ear only
dizziness(feels like I'm walking on a moving boat)
numbness or pins & needles in my hands and feet
hot plate feet(feels like standing on a hot plate

)sometimes the heat will travel up my leg.
Tired all the time
muscle tightness
tremors mainly in hands
problems with my walking where I was acually kinda dragging or shuffling my feet(they would not listen to me!

)

Well they could never really find out what was wrong with me.

Fast forward to now,2 yrs later and I started to get some of the symptoms back yesterday,mainly the buzzing in my ears,numbing in the right,dizziness,numbness & P&N in my hands and feet and the burning in my feet is back.Also tremors that I can feel on the inside but you can only see in my hands

also tired and muscles tightening up again.

I went to the dr today and she told me it looked like I had possible MS

and she put me on Prednisone and I have to go back in 2 weeks for a recheck and in 2 months for another MRI(I had one done last year,it was clean)Is there such thing as possible MS?I thought ever you have it or you don't.What happens if my next scan comes back clean?Does that mean no MS or does it mean it just hasn't shown up yet?

She told me that there are no meds for MS and that you can only treat the symptoms...is that true?

Also the prednisone...I have to take 10 mgs twice a day for a month.Isn't that kinda long to be taking that?I thought you could only be on that for 7 to 10 days?

This is a lot to digest at once and I feel for you. To answer a couple of your questions: if the MRI is clean does that mean no MS? No, you might still have it even if the MRI is clean again.

I would recommend seriously that you consider seeing a different doctor. 10 mg of steroids twice a day is not how you treat an execerbation of symptoms (regardless of whether you have MS). It is typical to take 50-60 mg for a couple a days, slowly tapering off by ten mg each day until you reach zero.

There are many other tests that should be done to eliminate other causes of these symptoms. You didn't mention having any blood work at all, if you haven't had any, I would request a battery of tests looking for anything from B12 deficiancies to tyroid problems.

Who is this doctor who's telling you there are no meds for MS????

They are referred to as the CRAB's drugs (Copaxone, Rebif, Avonex and Betaferon/Betaseron). There is no cure for MS but these drugs are meant to slow down the progression of the disease.

Unfortunately, many people are told they have possible MS. It's a a difficult disease to diagnose and because its symptoms mimic many other things AND the doctors are limited to meeting this way too strict diagnostic criteria, in my opinion, they're left using 'Possible MS'.

Look up the McDonald Criteria which to my understanding is what doctors in the US go by and go see an MS specialist. You should be able to call your local MS Foundation and get the name of a neurologist.

Oh, and one more thing - it's suggested to get started on one of the CRAB's drugs even if you only have been diagnosed with possible MS. That's what I'm doing. You need to have more tests done by a neurologist who specializes in MS though then you'll have a better idea of what is going on.
