Mayo Clinic/Jacksonville

Has anyone been to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville?

I am at my wits end and want to see "the best". At this point, I have an appt. at the University of Miami in July and Shands/Jacksonville MS Clinic in August. I am not willing to see one doctor at a time, then after a few months have to start over again.

I need answers now - this has been debilitating since January, but actually started with Trigeminal Neuralgia last July.

If you have been to the Mayo/Jacksonville, let me know if you have a doctor recommendation.

Thank you so much!
Cathy

Re: Mayo Clinic/Jacksonville

Hi,

I am near Shands of Jacksonville. I do know that they have excellent doctors. There are so many good doctors at Shands that I don't know who to recommend that you see. The only thing I can suggest is to go to Myflorida.com and look up the doctors. I have seen and worked with some of the best at Shands. It is the best place to be. The clinic has all the specialist in one area. It does take time to see them, but it is worth the wait.

Re: Mayo Clinic/Jacksonville

Although my lumbar puncture was negative, I received a possible diagnois of MS in May. My neuro is 90% sure that it is MS. One other possibility is transverse myelitis. I started Rebif a couple of weeks ago as a preventive measure. I have an appointment for a 2nd opinion with Dr. E.A. Shuster at Mayo Clinic on 7/13/06. I have great faith in Mayo Clinic because my father received a lung transplant there last July. He received the best medical care. I will let you know how the appointment goes.

Brighteyes,

Glad to hear you are going to Mayo. They have excellent doctors as well. I myself have now been referred to the MS clinic at Shands. I am going to see Dr. Silliman. And to let you know. My doctor that is retiring says that even if your LP is negative it doesn't mean that you do not have MS. Stastics show that people without MS have a positive LP and those with negative LP's do have MS. Just don't give up. If you don't get the answers you want keep looking until you find someone that will listen. Let me know how things go. Unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover Mayo. That was really my first choice.
Take one day at a time my friend....God does answers prayers....
