How do CRABs make you feel better??

I am scheduled to do my first Avonex shot this Friday. In reading a lot of the threads here, people say the shots make them feel better. From all I have read and the Drs have said, it doesn't fix anything just keeps you from progressing and limits the disability.

I guess I am a little confused.

Re: How do CRABs make you feel better??

(I think I am one of the big Avonex cheerleaders)

I don't know that Avonex did make me feel better. I just know my change has been amazing since I began the injections. I can drive, I have more energy, I think clearly, my balance is better, I can walk farther, I have almost no problems with tingling or numbness. It may simply be a good remission but it has occurred as I took Avonex. I would really hate to have to quit.
Some of these changes could be psychosomatic; my neurologist thinks very highly of Avonex and assured me from the beginning I would be pleased. So you could say I went into it with positive thoughts. Another thing is I only know one other person on Avonex and he has had NO SYMPTOMS in the 5 years he has used it.

Just my opinion, but you asked!!

Re: How do CRABs make you feel better??

I think for me mentally it made me feel like a different person. This whole MS rollercoaster really threw me for a loop and I had a very hard time accepting it all. The Avonex made me feel like I am doing something to help myself and stop the progression of this terrible disease. When I went for my 1 year follow up all my lesions were gone! So it is working for me... the side effects have been tough - but worth it if in the end I don't end up disabled. I am very lucky - my ms was dx'ed very early and I started the medicine right away. I also have a friend who has been on it for 5 years and symptom free!

Good luck!

Re: How do CRABs make you feel better??

I was on Avonex for about 1.5 years before I finally bluntly told my doctor that I refused to take this medication any longer.

During that time period I can honestly say I never felt any better. But then again I was having so many side effects that even if the Avonex was working I don't think I would have noticed it.

Re: How do CRABs make you feel better??

cliftonlady,
That is great that you are starting your CARBs! I am on a different one, however, I like LaLady have nothing but positive things to say. There is always a chance of side effects, but there is also always a chance of getting hit by lightening I too went into the shots with a positive attitude and I have felt great, after a very severe attack, ever since......a little over a year. Right before I take a deep breath and think of something that makes me happy, complete the shot and move on with my night! It works great
Good Luck and Keep us posted!
Holly
