black and white spots on mri scan: worried - Multiple Sclerosis Message Board

I have had many neuro symptoms over past 5 years, mostly relating to weakness/fatigue, internal tremor, balance/ verdigo. Have seen neuroligist on and off over the years. In the end i was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. Went back to neuro last week and he sent me for MRI. He called and told me the scan was abnormal and I have black and white spots on my brain (didnt say how many). Asked if he thought it was related to ms. He said its a serious diagnosis and he would consult with others. I see him next week. Could any one tell me more about black and white spots and are they mostly related to ms. I feel this is where the doctor is heading.

The white spots would be active lesions.
The black spots are past lesions.

This may or may not be MS.

you do have neurological symptoms that go hand in hand with MS.

If it ends up being MS,remember its livable.A new life with limitations.

You'll get alot of support here on these boards.

i always thought the black spots were what i always heard called "black holes" where that part of the brain has deteriorated so much its like it doesn't even exist anymore.. i have one big black spot on my MRI where this has happened and my neuro is also worried about it.. but so far i am not feeling any effects from it *knock on wood* X10

but at any rate nuffs3 is right MS isn't the end of the world.. in a lot of peoples cases they are just so happy to finally know what has been causing all these odd symptoms and can now stop being told by DRs "its all in your head" or "its just stress".. and take some action to help slow down the MonSter..

at least that was the case for me after 10yrs of being told "your just anxious/depressed"..
