I personally have not taken Ibuprofen for either of those symptoms but my doctor did prescribe Amitriptyline for nerve pain in my hip. It's technically an anti-depressant but isn't really used for that purpose anymore as they discovered it works better on nerve pain. Anyway, I never took it because it has a nasty side effect of weight gain but I thought I'd mention it to you as something you could bring up to your doctor as a possible treatment.
i tried Ibuprofen when i had my bout of optic neuritis and it did nothing for the pain.. and again when i had pain in that same eye ( not ON that time) and my neuro told me to take 800mg 3 times a day to see if it would help.. again it did nothing.. i don't know if that is the same kind of nerve pain you are asking about but i would think nerve pain is nerve pain.. could be wrong though..
