so after 2 clean mris in a year and lots of new symptoms....
my doc is ordering a OAE and VEMP.
from what i know, these are hearing tests?
I haven't had any hearing changes or loss, but i think he's trying something inner ear related because of my dizziness....
im afraid he's giving up on my pain symptoms.
UGH
any details/insight on VEMP and OAE?

A vemp is an evoked potential emg.Its purpose is to check muscles in the neck and the hearing impulse back to the brain.Its done through placing electrode disk in certain areas of the head,neck and leg.

The oae they insert electrical propes into the ears and check for the accustic(sp) levels of your hearing through certain pitches and frequency's.

These test are great tools.These test will tell if its peripheral---nerves damaged in the ears.Or if its neurological ----coming from hidden lesions.

the areas around the brain stem and the gray matter areas of the brain are quite difficult to detect lesions even with MRI technology.

I had similiar testing done through an ENT,thats how they detected lesions that were not seen on an MRI machine.

that is so encouraging to know. hurray for him covering all the bases. the only thing i saw about oae's is that they were good for people who were faking a hearing loss. i was worried he thought i was faking a symptom i never complained about :-)
