Electrical Sensations- Do You Have??? - Multiple Sclerosis Message Board

My husband had his second MRI, this one was with contrast. We are still waiting for results....I hate waiting.

Yesterday he said he was having electrical like sensations shooting down his arms/hands. He told me he had also been having them across his chest....when I questioned him on how long this has been going on he told me for a couple of weeks now but it only happens occassionally when he is relaxing or about to dose off.

He told me the thing that scares him is a couple of times he feels this "like a electrical disconnection in the middle of my chest", he trys to expain it to me but I don't have a clue. He says in only a second but he's afraid it will happen one time and it will stay that way.

Has anyone had any of these experiences???

So sorry to hear what your husband is going through. I can relate to some of what you are describing. I dont know how to explain a strange symptom I get at times which feels like an electrical storm, but through my whole body at time. I also describe this feeling to my neuro sometimes as an internal tremor, which is very stong and again can be anywhere in my body. I think sometimes it is so hard to articulate what we are feeling but just that it is real. I have spent 2 years trying to describe this feeling and like your husband I mostly get it before going off to sleep or it wakes me from my sleep. The neuro and ms nurse tell me its most likely what happens before a relape. I just know its difficult and yes very scary. All the best and I hope others can shead light on some of these strange symptoms we can have.

Could you be describing what's known as L'Hermitte's Sign? Look it up and see.

My L'Hermitte's sign is "activated' when I lower my chin to my chest...I get shooting electrical impulses down through my lower back and thighs. That's the way I've described them to this point. It's one of the symptoms that makes my NS think my issues are mechanical and not MS.

Keep asking questions - eventually you'll fnd a good answer.

What I've seen on this for MS includes the aggravation when lowerig the chin -- does your doctor think it's not MS related because it manifests in your lower back and thighs?

Last appointment, my neuro was actually a little irritated with me because I tried to clarify something I said during my first appointment. I had described something like an "electrical current" running through the back of my neck but when I read up more on symptoms and L'H, it wasn't really the same thing. I've gotten this thing on and off which is not really quite a "shock" -- it's more like someone crumpled up a piece of paper in the back of my neck. Almost like your stomach gurgling but in a different place. But who knows? (And sometimes it actually DOES happen in tandem with my stomach gurgling, LOL!)
