An update for Mitox infushion #2

Hey all! Just wanting to pass on some hi's and some summer wishes. I hope everyone is doing well. I had my second infushion last week. Everything was going fine until my little one picked up a bug. Darn kids and their germs. Long story short my wife phoned the MS clinic and they told me to get to the hospital. I was full of nothing but bile and had a high temperature (107) I could not keep anything down. I went to the hospital had four bags of saline. Some steroids and anti nausea meds right into the IV. I got out last night came home and slept the sleep of the dead.

Anyone on Chemo must avoid anyone that is sick. Your immune systemis down and if you get anything you get it hard. I think that another part of the problem was that we were having a heat spell. It was up around 28 degrees celcius. I am sure that the heat did not help. It has been good for my tomatos lol.

I am defintly doing better on the chemo. My doc said that I should not improve but I should stop getting worse. Me and my wife both thing that I am getting better. I have been able to stand up and even walk a few steps. I need to hang on to stuff to stumble around, but it feels good. I think I look better if the Music is on when I am walking. At least sometimes I shake to the music.lol

Sorry I have not posted alot but I am reading alot of the posts. My vision has really been afected by the heat, so it takes me awhile to read through the posts. Usually once I have done that I am too tired to respond My vision tests out at 20/20, but I can't see. does this happen to anyone else? (good thing I don't do ground transport anymore haha)

Later, Doug

I'm glad the chemo is working for you. And you're right about sick people especially those carrier monkeys.

A good friend of mine went through chemo last year for breast cancer and if any of her grandkids so much as sniffed, their parents wouldn't let them go to her house. Sucked, but better safe than sorry. After all, it was only for a few months.

As for the vision thing, I deal with that too. I don't have 20/20 vision, but I do have days where my focus is just a little off. I also sometimes get this 'shaded' look. It can be a bright sun shining day, but to me it'll look like everything is in a shadow. Neuro says it's just part of MS.

It's nice to see that you have a real good sense of humor. It definitely is a must have for anybody dealing with this crazy disease.

Hey Doug. Just wanted you to know youve been on my mind and my thoughts are with you. I'm soo sorry to hear that you were so sick; however sounds like you are on the road to recovery. Im glad to hear it. You know, I just went to court over my stepkids- Im not even ON Chemo, but my step-kids mother KEEPS sending the kids to our home on weekends, even when they are REALLY ill- high temps, throwing up, she doesnt care. Im the built-in babysitter. We had to take out a court order that if the kids are sick ,she wont send them. In general, with MS, we get things faster and more severely then healthy people. I cant even imagine adding Chemo to the mix....
wish she could read your post. NO, on second thought, she is hoping for the worst when it comes to me. Its probably not a good idea!

Again, just wanted to send you my well wishes....take care and KEEP on KEEPING ON! Youre doing so well, and Im soo happy for you!
Hugs,
Nikki

Re: An update for Mitox infushion #2

Hi Doug,

So sorry to hear of your mishap. Now you had one mean high temperature. You are a very lucky man. Yes, my husband came down with a bad cold, I have him a mask to walk around in and I wore one too, refused to sleep in the same room and took the couch for a few days. I was fortunate not to catch his cold as I am on the same chemo as you are. Glad you home and to hear the great news that you are actually feeling better. Like your Dr mine has stated to me that the chemo just slows it down, however the Oncologist told me he has seen many people improve. My second infusion is set for June 28, I am hoping to see positive results too. Last time the nausea was very severe for me, I am going to ask for something this next tie. My eyesight from time to time also goes blurry, I wear glasses and keep cleaning them, but it is not the eyeglasses it is my eyes. But I do not have any pain associated with the blurring. I have however, developed these pains in my head from behind the lower earlobe across the back of my head to the other ear. This is something new and it is like a pressure type pain. Otherwise, I think I am feeling about the same, definitely not worse. I took have trouble walking, I use a walker, as I become very unstable at any time. My balance seems to be way off, I constantly wear my black and blue marks. Do you feel more tingling in your legs since the chemo, I do, hopefully this is good news. Take care and keep us updated.

Re: An update for Mitox infushion #2

Hey there NarLyB,

Thanks for the reply! Man sick people! lol We ae supossed to have 28 kids over next Friday for a birthday party for my Daughter. I think that I should probably run away for the day to the inlaws and ride a couch there. I am suppossed to be at my lowest point for immunity next week because of the chemo. It's my daughters half bithday. She was born Dec. 27, so we thought that it was a good idea to move her day so she could invite her friends. Who knew she had so many!

I hope your friend is doing well. It is not fun to battle any disease. My exes mom went through the chemo and mastectomy in 78 or 79 and is doing well today. Strong lady.

thanks for picking up on the humor. (I think that I might put some people off)this disease can take so much from you but, if you find you can laugh about stuff it makes it easier. I get down sometimes but I try not to let it hang around too long. I used to say things could be worse, but they kept getting worse so I stopped saying that. lol Really though things could always be worse.

thanks and take care! Doug
I won't let it take my funny bone.
