Indiana, anyone?

Posting this for someone looking for doctors in Indiana (not myself). I don't know exactly where in the state they are but if anyone has a recommendation for any of the following: Neurologist, MS specialist, PCP and Neuro-ophthalmologist in Indiana, would you provide the doctors' names and in what city they're located? (Can't provide phone numbers, as per board rules but the other info. is okay.)

Thanks in advance for any help. Hopefully the person will be over to introduce themselves personally but in the meantime, anything I can pass on would be appreciated. I know that there are some people here from Indiana and I'm hoping some of you see this soon.

Re: Indiana, anyone?

Bearygood,
have them call the National Society and locate a chapter in their town. The chapter can give out referrals, etc, directly to them.
good luck.
Nikki

Re: Indiana, anyone?

Yup, but there ARE people from Indiana on this board and of course, a personal recommendation for any of the doctors cited below (not just an MS specialist) would be fantastic. So if any of you Indiana folks see this, please post.

Thanks.

Re: Indiana, anyone?

Yes, I live in Indiana. Indianapolis to be exact. I have a WONDERFUL neurologist. I have been through 2 previous neuros and I did not care for them.
My doctor is: Dr. David Josephson with JWM neurology. They have more than one office but the one that I go to is right next to St. Vincent's hospital on
86th st.
The reason that I like him so much is that he takes a great personal interest in me when I go to my appts. He has taken notes so that he knows I have a son and that I'm in school. He is very optimistic and encouraging. He also lets me know of ALL the new meds out there and he always asks me how my bladder is doing. haha. I know that's a big symptom for a lot of people.
He makes me promise to call him at the moment that I have a relapse because he says I shouldn't have to suffer through it. He also makes me promise to call him to get the results of my MRI and blood tests.
Overall, I feel like he is a really close family member who is taking care of me even though I only see him every 6 months unless I have a relapse.

Re: Indiana, anyone?

THANKS, helricha! I passed the info. along and even though she's 2 hours away, she may be calling your doctor's office. She's not sure but she thinks her husband might be having to go to another doctor in the same building for something else. Again, thanks so much!

Re: Indiana, anyone?

Hi helricha! I'm in Indy and have to ask you about Dr. Josephson please. Like everyone, I am struggling with pain management. I'm wondering if Dr. Josephson is helpful/understanding about trying different meds.... I have been on Norco for over 10 years for disc damage and my doc wants me to try Methadone now. Would this be something Dr. Josephson would work with someone like me with?

Thank you so much for your time with this question!! Take care!
Amy

Re: Indiana, anyone?

Hello all! I also live in the area (south of Greenwood) and my neuro. is Dr. Glander who is in the same office as Dr. Josepheson. He has been very good. He listens well and is always willing to look at other ideas.

Take care!

Question Re: Indiana, anyone?

Do any of you in Indiana know if Cynthia Hingtgen at the University Clinical Neurologists is a good choice for an opinion on MS?

That clinic is listed on the Indiana MS chapters lists of specialists. I am trying to find someone who has gone to this clinic.

I tried to see if I could get in to see the doctor you all are talking about but he is not covered by my insurance.

Thanks!
L

Re: Indiana, anyone?

I've been referred to Dr. Hingtgen for an appt. on the 27th of Sept. to tell me if I have MS or not. So, I've been wondering the same thing myself, if anyone knows if I will be able to get a final answer of not.

Re: Indiana, anyone?

Brownowl.... typically they are not quick to diagnose MS unless all of your tests are absolute. Alot of the symptoms of MS are similar to other conditions so they try to use the process of elimination.

Good luck with your appointment and have a good holiday.

Re: Indiana, anyone?

I will try to remember to post after my appointment with her. I have already had one MS specialist say MS should be strongly considered in my case. So, I am not sure if Dr. Hingtgen will add or take away much from that or not.

Re: Indiana, anyone?

Wow. Sorry all the Indiana people on here. I have not checked this board in like oh... a long time. School keeps me crazy busy.

amyalex67: As far as I can tell with Dr. Josephson is that he is really open to a lot of treatments. I can tell you that I believe that he may work with you unless it is something that he believes is going to hurt you.

slskckjebw: So what tests have they done to find out if you have MS? If the specialist already said that it is a strong possibility, where is the question in the tests? MRI, LP, etc...
I don't know anything about the MD that you're going to see but I'll ask around. I'm in nursing school right now and I am in a lot of hospitals doing my clinicals and around a lot of heathcare professionals. Someone has to know something about the MD.
Let me know how your appt. goes.

Re: Indiana, anyone?

Well, I started having a few symptoms 6 years ago. Eye pain, numbness.............the MRI came back clear at that time although the neurologist noted some weakness in my extremities.
A couple of years later I started with Trigeminal Neuralgia
This spring it was Optic Neuritis and funny leg. Brain MRI showed ON and a couple of spots. But the spots are not in the "right" place for MS. (that is the big question I guess)
My C-spine was good. My BAER and SER were ok. VER was abnormal.
So, that is where I am at right now.
