Angry So this is an answer...?

Hi,
I was to the gp today again. I'm not sure I agree with her, however I guess I will play the game for a bit! The lesions that I have are no longer of concern...no reason for them, but all the same, the neuro doc was not concerned! So now they have a somewhat "pacifying" (sp) dx for me...get ready, it's a good one...Symptomatic Stress Disorder. I am manifesting the symptoms due to stress! So now I am to start taking Prozac 20 mg qid and Valium 1 mg qhs. They don't understand for one that I am 98 pounds and cannot handle the dose, or that I need to work, or that I have 4 kids. That dosing is enough for me not to get out of bed all day long!
Any suggestions would be helpful...thanks!

Thats a nice little DX for you!!!! And they say they give me my Fibro DX because they don't want to take the time to find out whats wrong with me!

I didn't do well on Prozac, I slept all day for a week straight, my son ( he was little then) he would sit by me and say mommy can;t you stay up for more than 5 minutes. Well, I took that prescription and tossed it in the garbage.

Yes I no longer had anxiety because I was asleep! LOL so in that aspect it did do what it was supposed too!!!!

Can you break it in half? Or maybe call and either ask for a smaller dosage or something totally different?

Hope

Re: So this is an answer...?

Aggravated,

Now I know why you have your username! I'm so sorry you are going through this. If you truly believe in your heart (and body) that your problem is not stress related, then seek out a second opinion.

Did you ever get in touch with your MS Society Local Chapter to find an MS specialist?

I want you to know that I love my GP, but he is not trained in neurological disorders and when I went to him about numb hands/wrists and feet/ankles, he told me the only thing that he knew that could be was anxiety or stress! i KNEW i was not stressed. the only stress i had was that i was feeling ill and having these sx's and nobody was trying to figure it out or offer help and my gp was telling me it was all in my head!

i decided to wait it out and, of course, like most of our sx's do, it went away with no medication and no change of lifestyle.

Be your own advocate and maybe seek out an MS specialist as close to home as possible or even a neurologist - have you seen a neuro - i can't remember. I know you were having trouble locating one.

i'm praying for you that you find the help and answers you need and for physical grace. please keep us posted.

blessings,
michelle

Re: So this is an answer...?

I had a hard time with Prozac too, though my response was the opposite. It virtually changed my personality, and I actually become aggressive toward people. Keep an eye out for side effects for sure on this one. I was only on it for four days.

You probably don't need to take the Valium if you don't think you need it. It is a good tranquilizer and it also relaxes muscles, but it's habit forming. There's no reason why you can't take half that I can think of. It'll save money too!

Re: So this is an answer...?

OMG!!!! that is exactly what my doctor told me today as well and wants me to see a pshycologist ( cant spell anymore ) I told her that this started before stress but since they cant find anything on the tests, its "stress related"' but she did use the same term for the dis-order that you just used... wish you luck. personally I am tired of all the tests.
