Re: Question on meds?

Hey Wallaye.
Has your wife increased the amount? I am on Rebif...when I started, the first 2 weeks were 7mcg...then, the box tritrated to 22 mcg...then it went to 44 mcg.
Its possible that you and she didnt even know that the sryinges were a titration. If this is the case, then the increase in mcg would account for her all the sudden having diarhea as well as cramps and flu like symtoms. I didnt start having reactions until the end of the first package of Rebif....those side effects can last as long as 3-4 months...they should ONLY happen 2-8 hours after the shot, and go away in between shots...

Is she taking Aleve or any over the counter pain med 1/2 hour before the shot? She should be. I like Aleve because you only take one pill and it lasts 12 hours...you basically can get a good nights sleep!

If the problems continue, she should call her neuro and talk to him or his nurse...but check out the box, see if it says titration pack on it...and even if it doesnt, she hasnt been on the meds that long...its very possible that the side effects are STARTING to kick in and this will pass...

hope this helps.
Nikki

Re: Question on meds?

msnik thank you first of all. wifes been waiting all day for ms lifelines nurse to call.
this was 2nd dose of 22mcg 1st one was friday and then sun. friday she was ok, but after work her whole body hurt taht could have been related to carring a 20-40 lb bus tub full of dishes. saturday aches and pains and major fatique, aches and pains back on sun then sun night the runs like all the time. yes box states titration.
shes also taking i believe pregnizone and ibprofin per pcp request. shes placing a call tomorrow to nuero, cause this is on and off since sunday night and its almost uncontrolable.
yes it does help! THANK YOU

Re: Question on meds?

Glad I was able to help! Have your wife ask the Neuro if she can TRY Aleve, which is Naproxen instead of Ibuprofin....its the same type of Non-steroid Anti-inflammatory, but a different chemical makeup...and honestly, ask anyone who Ive recommended this to on this board (do a search on ALEVE here on healthboards) youll see that because it lasts twice as long, people are raving about it....
Of course, get the docs okay first...but its over the counter, found in any drug or grocery store, and costs the same as tylenol! Its not unusual that at this point, she is experincing side effects. I can remember laying on the floor crying I felt so bad 3 hours after my shot....however, dont let her give up! They say it takes 6 months for this Rebif to reach full strength in the body...and it only takes half that time for the body to get used to it and stop having symtoms altogehter! I just celebrated a year on Rebif, and I had NO NEW LESIONS or anything bad on my MRIs last week! Things are looking up for me, overall....rebif is a great drug, you just have to stick out the first few months!
Good luck to her, tell her Im with her, and she has my sympathies because it isnt easy for the body to adjust to it...but its worth it!
Hugs to you both.
