Question Premixed Avonex

I have been trying to decide whether of not to switch from the powder form of Avonex to the premixed syringes. Some people I have spoke to have not had good experiences with the premixed version. What are your experiences with it. Would love to have feedback from anyone who can help. Thanks!

Thanks StephanieAnne, any information helps. After having your injection you just had some flu like symptoms meaning muscle aches, head ache, etc.? Was it really bad or do you find it manageable?
Some people I talked to ended up throwing up and and severe fatigue. Did you experience anything like that?
I have been taking the powder form for over 3 years now and now thinking about switching to the prefilled version. I have reacted fairly well to the powder form (flu like symptoms are minimal) so I'm nervous about the change...if I choose to switch. It is nice to hear that you have reacted fairly well to it.

Re: Premixed Avonex

Hi there Stacy,

I was on powder Avonex for a few years. Had a break, family planning n stuff. I was sooo nervous to go back to doing the mixing up myself. That alone made me more nervous leading up to the shot. Here you just snap off the top.And twist on a needle.
I now am back on Avonex have been so almost 4 about a half months...
FANTASTIC.. much easier, I had the MS Avonex Nurse come home to help me
She was so nice and patient.
As for side effects, i too was getting the flu like symptoms, Headaches, chills and sweats. I now wont take my shots without a Aleve ( Naprosyn SR 750gm) i just take one half hr before my shot. And volaaaa i sleep through the night; without having to get up for any more tablets cause its last 12hrs. It has a slow release. Better than any other meds that don't last. Here i do need a prescription so ask yr pharmacy. I know i wont go back to the old Avonex. Good luck with yr choice. But do keep us posted.

Re: Premixed Avonex

I got off Avonex because after I switched to the pre-mixed stuff, the flu-like symptoms came EVERY week and I just couldn't stand it anymore. I preferred the powder and just never realized it was still an option. I would have gone back to that because my symptoms were very sporadic by the time the premixed came on the market. Maybe it would have settled down a bit, but I had been on it (premixed) for over six months and nothing was getting better. I think they knew me by name at the hotline we tried so many things (more liquids, longer time getting to room temp, etc.)!
