Red face MRI of neck...educate me please

OK, I need some education. I called yesterday to neuro & ask for a MRI of neck & spine. The only MRI I've had is to check my pitutary gland. Anyway, the nurse called me today & said he would only order one of my neck. He says that with my leg & arm hurting & other sx it won't be in my spine. It will only be in my neck. He did say if my neck shows something then he will order MRI of spine. Is this true? Listed below is a list of sx that I've told him about & I'll also list tests performed.

Pain in both legs- mainly left
Pain in both arms-mainly right
twitching all over- head to toe
burning sensation- head to toe
pins- head to toe
tremors- all over (mainly hands & arms)
fatigue!!!!
uncontrolled bowl movement- 2 x's
back pain- entire but mostly lower
forgetfullness & concentration
buzzing in ear/sounds
hazy vision
eye pain
eye twitching

Tests:
blood test--enough to save 2 lives
lyme, b-12, liver, kidney, hormone, & a lot more
nerve conductive study
EMG
MRI with & w/o contrast to test pitutary gland

HELP ME PLEASE!

Thanks in advance to all of you...I couldn't imagine going through this w/o this board.

God bless,
Shelly

Re: MRI of neck...educate me please

Also, is there any meds that can help with fatigue & pain if you don't have a dx of MS? I'll be willing to ask for just about anything at this point.

Thanks again.

Re: MRI of neck...educate me please

Shelly, are you seeing a neurologist or an MS specialist? To clarify, when you say your "neck" you are actually talking about your cervical spine (c-spine). The places (besides the brain) that MS lesions can appear are on the c-spine and thoracic spine (t-spine) and also on the VERY upper portion of the lumbar spine (l-spine), where it meets the t-spine but that is covered in a t-spine MRI.

The first brain MRI I had was a pituitary study. Although lesions were found, a subsequent MRI showed additional lesions. A pituitary study is not complete to see all lesions that might be on the brain.

As far as your sx go, as far as I know, that is not true. I don't know a ton about it but I do know that the lesion I have on my t-spine is capable of giving me some leg weakness (this, according to my MS specialist). The other thing is that because of some of my sx that you're describing, I fought to get an l-spine MRI. I had a back injury a few years back and suspected that some of my problems might be coming from that. I DID eventually get the l-spine MRI but I had to go to a REGULAR neurologist to get the prescription -- my MS specialist would not give it to me.

Again, although I am not an expert, I'd say that a few of the things you mentioned could be attributable to something going on in your t-spine or l-spine but definitely not everything.

When my MS returned as PPMS the new lesion causing my problems was a large lesion found on my t-spine. The neuro found it after searching through all the old scars to no avail. It was my 3rd MRI.

While I have continual weakness in my legs, it is predominately my right side that is bothered and it has been this way since 1982. SInce PPMS it has balanced out to about 60/40 for weakness in my legs, 70/30 in my hands, and remains 100% a royal pain in my head!

MS takes the patience of Job to not only diagnose, but it requires the same patience to live with day-to-day. This is a board where, when other say they understand your pain, frustration, dilemma, you can trust that they do!

Stay positive- ALWAYS!

Thank you. It's hard to stay positive when everyone thinks it's all your head & you can't get the dr. to listen. Just so happens that Job is one of my favorite books of the Bible. So, thanks for the reminder.

Shelly

Re: MRI of neck...educate me please

Hi Shelly.

Your neuro is correct in doing the MRI of the cervical spine. Cervical spine lesions can cause problems with bladder, bowel, and legs but not all of your symptoms would be cause by cervical spine lesions.

I have never had a full spine MRI just the cervical spine. I don't see a need for it in my case and apparently my neuro doesn't either. I have numerous cervical spine lesions.

Re: MRI of neck...educate me please

Well see Snoopy you taught me something. I didn't know the neck was the c-spine. Thank you, I feel so much better now. I don't want MS, but I am praying they find something. I'm tired of people thinking I'm crazy.

Thanks a bunch-
