Question Question : treatments .....

i am wondering your opinions on treatments .. for those of us that treat symptoms which do you prefer steriods or opiods ?

so far i have been on opiods, i do get asked to try different meds, but they are steriods .. and maybe it is my preconceived notion that steriods don't have the same effect as opiods and vice versa .. in other words , which works better and does less harm ?

thanks for your replies ....

Re: Question : treatments .....

Cyprian,

Opiods Are Used To Treat Pain And Can Be Addictive, depending What You Are Taking And How Often.i Take Opiods Daily For Pain.

Steroids Are Used To Reduce Inflamation During A Flair Up.i Have Been On Oral Prednisone And The Iv Solu-medrol.with Steroids Comes Their Down Falls As Reducing The Ability To Fight Infections,it Can Increase Sugar Levels,it Can Cause Cateracts.

With All Meds They Can Have Side Effects But Taking Meds Can Have There Benifits When It Comes To Symptoms And Helping Them.

If You Are On Opiods Is It For Pain And Do They Want You To Try Steroids To Try To Help Symptoms?

duttin - it was suggessted about steriods perhaps for my vision , and other secondary symtoms.

the bulk of meds i am taking are for treatment of anxiety , depression, there are three of these .

i take ultram er now for pain .. i see my neuro near the end of month and he will want to talk about this as he felt i was on so many anti this and anti that , i am scared of the outcome.

it was suggested i get off all anti's , and that will definately require hospitalization, as i have been on these meds anywhere from 5 - 7 years ... he and my np think that they may be causing more harm at this point than good .. i don't know what to think anymore ..

if you want the names of meds = alprzolam, lexapro, trazadone

i also have genetically high cholesterol so i have been using vytorin , and it works well ...

i also take fish oil to help me move my bowels, which is a pain. and tums as i have GERD and cannot afford the aciphex i once used and it worked well, now i feel like i am getting an ulcer .. and my head is spinning with having to think about this stuff ...

so, i was looking for feedback on any or ... so thank you , hope i have given you an answer somewhere in there ..

Re: Question : treatments .....

Hopefully There Can Be A Way To Taper You Off The Anti-depressants So Hospital Time Wouldn't Be Required.unless They Were Talking About Putting You On Solu-medrol Infusions Thus In Some Cases Requiring A Hospital Stay Usually For First Time Users.

If They Are Gonna Push For Oral Steroids To Help With Vision, really Check Into It As Oral Steroids Can Cause Visual Problems Reoccur.

Hopefully Your Medical Drs Can Come To An Agreement To Slowly Taper Off The Anti--meds.as After 5-7 Years It Will Take Time.

Re: Question : treatments .....

thank you duttin .. lynn - i am getting feed back from others about steriods, and i am just not comfortable with that .. about the hospital, it could very well be that is what the neuro was suggesting .. i will know more when i see him .. but i know it is going to be painful .. i went about week w/o my xanax and i was shivering and my skin was creepy crawlys something fierce .. plus migraines galore .. i am just scared and tired , it has been rough pretending to be so cheerful everyday , when i feel like dying on the inside ... your very kind to respond to my post .. agserra
