I am posting because I am concerned about a friend's daughter, she is 14 years old and has had several episodes in the past few weeks where she gets dizzy and her arms and tongue go numb. The symptoms don't last long, and in between she is perfectly fine. My friend took her to the Dr., who found nothing wrong during the examination, but suggested blood tests. The problem is that my friend has no insurance, and the blood work is very expensive. The Dr. did not say what he was looking for, and only said it sounded like syncope (sp.?) the way she would feel just before fainting. Any ideas what this could be? Are these early symptoms of MS?

No, it doesn't sound like MS. Sx do not come and go so quickly. If the first thing the doctor wanted to do was blood tests, it doesn't sound like he's suspecting MS anyway (you can't detect MS through blood work).

There are a lot of diseases more serious than MS and the best way you can be a good friend to your friend is to encourage her to move forward with testing to make sure there is nothing wrong and if there is, to find out what it is. And also, to look into getting insurance ASAP. We all know it's expensive but there can be a bigger price to pay than a premium.
