tysabri questions? - Multiple Sclerosis Message Board

Hi, all! My name is Libby, and I just fouind this board...You all seem really helpful and nice, so, I have some questions about tysabri, if anyone can tell me anything about it please? I was dx'd with ms 14 years ago this week. I still have the strength to walk in my house with a walker most of the time, but I'm getting to the point I use my motorized w/c a lot more. My new neurologist suggested that I think about tysabri last Monday when I saw her, so I'm looking & asking, and honestly haven't found anyone unhappy with it yet! I was on avonex starting in 1996, and was on it with no problem til the end of last year, started making me unable to walk 4 or 5 hrs after the shot, totally spastic for 24 hrs! Quit anything for about 4 mnths, started Rebif cpl months ago. Was good for the first month, then started getting same side effects, and major depression. Now I'd like to try tysabri, but, am I too far along in this disease for ANY help, except solu-medrol, get that once or twice a year....doesnt help the symptoms that much, just gives me strength to fight this!! Thanks for any help, I really appreciate it!!

Libby, I am just now coming up on my 5th tysabri infusion. I was also on avonex and rebif and did fine until the side effects(flu symptoms) became too much and the relapses more frequent. Tysabri for me has worked well. The side effects at first were rough (headache body aches etc) but they are getting less and less with each infusion. <removed> I had a friend who also did ALOT of research on the drug for me so I was pumped up about it. The thing is for me is it seems to work slow but it does work...just be patient and do the research and remember the benefits out weigh the risk...good luck...Stacy

Hi Libby, welcome to our boards here. I myself am on Avonex. Here in Oz, Tysabri has just been approved just on 1 year now. I only know one person on it myself. He had reactions to all othere DMD. Has been on T for 6 months now. Doing great, no relapse's and has even gone back to work. Good o you for doing your own research. This board is a good start. Healthy days to you.
