Single Hives? From Tysabri? - Multiple Sclerosis Message Board

Let me just start off with a little bit of my health background. For years i have gotten single hives. They were always on my face. By single hive, i of course mean ONE hive. Not a group. Just one.

In January of 2008 i was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and in August of 2008 i started Tysabri. One common side effect is an allergic reaction. 10 days after receiving my first infusion of Tysabri i broke out into severe hives. They were all over. Even on my palms and eyelids. Ever since then i get IV benadryl before my monthly Tysabri infusion. But i keep getting the single hive. They are always on my stomach between the end of my rib cage and groin.

It usually pops up directly under my belly button but sometimes is off to the side like the one i currently have which prompted me to come here and find out what this could possibly be. I get it at least once a week. I no longer get it on my face.

Can anyone tell me why i get this one random hive? It usually goes away within an hour or so.

Your doctor is in the best position to help you with your answer. If you want to use meds, perhaps a different DMD would be less allergic? Even with your benadryl, I do not think it is good to use something that provokes an allergic reaction. I would ask your doctor about adjusting your meds to avoid any long term effects. (again, my personal, non-medical opinions....).

Have been to tysabri's web site? They should have a lot of useful information regarding their product and side effects on it. Elan, I believe is the co-developer aand they may have some information on their website regarding medication side effects. Good luck and I hope all works out well.
