LP results - still possible MS?

Hello. I just got my LP results back - looks like everything was negative :-). That still doesn't explain whatever is going on. My doc is still leaving "possible MS" on my chart, but said I'd have to present physical symptoms for a diagnosis- right now, most of my symptoms are cognitive, with the exception of the numbing and tingling that happens every day in my hands, toes, and heels. He also did a sleep-deprived EEG yesterday to see if I'm having sleep seizures - another possibility for the reason I suddenly have multiple deep subcortical lesions in both cerebral hemispheres. Then there's the positive ANA that keeps staying with me, no matter what. He's pretty much ruled out all the differential diagnoses with the LP- what is the next step? The only thing I haven't been tested for is mono - but would mono cause a positive ANA and all these lesions? I have read lesions can sometimes happen as you age, but I'm in very good health (other than my symptoms) and am only 28 y/o. No one else in my family has ever had any lesions... I'm just wondering if anyone else out there is going through, or knows someone who is going through, this same process. Thanks!

Re: LP results - still possible MS?

Of those getting LP's and being diagnosed with MS, 15% are negative. I have never had a positive result. The LP is not a one stop diagnosis tool, it is just there to help the doctors. For many it can point towards a nervous system malady- but not the specific disease. More often the results can exclude many diseases and thereby allow a diagnosis to follow.
