I think I have MS now what do I do

I think I have MS now what do I do? The neurologist that my gp sent me to is only interested in thinking I have diabetes or that i drink. I don't drink and I don't have diabetes. i am planning on telling the gp that i do not want to return to him. But in the meantime I have horrible leg pains, bladder problems, insomnia, depression, short term memory loss and numerous other symptoms.

Re: I think I have MS now what do I do

Hello, sahicken.

If you don't like the neuro you are with then talk to your GP about a different neuro. Not all patients like the same doctors.

If there is a concern about MS then testing will need to be done. In the meantime you might ask about seeing a Urologist for your bladder problems. Urologist can also determine if you bladder problems are due to a urology problem or neurological.

Your depression needs to be treated asap. Many GPs will prescribe medications for depression.

Your GP might also be able to help with leg pains which might be the cause of your insomnia. When you hurt you don't sleep well.

Many symptoms can be treated while going through the diagnostic process.

Did you happen to have a Brain MRI?

Has any of your doctors mentioned MS as a possibility?

Did you have trouble with fatigue before starting Lyrica, Prozac and Ambien? Those meds can all cause fatigue.

I hope you get answers soon.

Re: I think I have MS now what do I do

Yes I had bad fatigue and the rest of the symptoms before hand. Actually off and on for several years. My GP has said it could be any one of many Auto immune problems. I have not had the brain MRI yet that is what I am going to ask about next time I go in.

I am a little suprised the neuro did the spine MRI but not the brain. In most cases the Dr. starts with the Brain MRI

It sound like you have a good GP. Hopefully he will get you a new neuro.

Re: I think I have MS now what do I do

First really bad time was about 10 years ago then about three years ago it started up again and they tried to tell me the leg pain was sciatica but there is too many other things going along with it and nothing on the spinal mri. I have RLS and overactive bladder, swallowing problems, insomnia, fatigue, burning sensation on my skin, short term memory loss, stuttering, blurred vision, tingling in the hands and feet and of course depression. And the worst thing is the pain I get in my legs and arms. I want to cry.

Keep the faith. I have a few "friend" wish MS who are in their 60 and 70's. There progression is different. They have rebounds. They have both found that good nutrition is beneficial to minimize the symptoms.

Re: I think I have MS now what do I do

Oh yes and I have acid reflux as well. I believe my mother has MS but has not been diagnosed. She has all the same symptoms as I do but even more extreme. I don't think there is a day goes by that she doesn't sleep at least 12 hours a day. She has scaring on her brain but it is older nothing new. Now if she has it my chances are greater for having as well aren't they?

Re: I think I have MS now what do I do

My GP is referring me to another Neurologist as the first one and I did not communicate very well. I also am getting my head MRI at last. He is curious as to the facial numbing I have been having and muscle jerking , he says that my symptoms don't seem to fit any one thing. So I shall have to wait and see I guess.

Re: I think I have MS now what do I do

A. I have MS and dont sleep but 6-7 hours a day and do fine...I also work 50+ hours a week, have 3 kids and a very responsible job.... fatigue is a symtom of MS, but certainly sleeping 12+ hours a day could be ALLOT of things- not pointing towards MS.

B. if your mom does have MS, no- it doesnt increase your chances of having it. MS is not a hereditary disease.....there is some research going on right now suggesting that it might be a gene which is hereditary which sugests that family members are more prone to having auto-immune diseases, but that doesnt mean because mom might have MS you would be more likely to have it.

Its great that your GP IS referring you to another Neuro...sometimes, we just dont "fit" with our doctors, and having one who you are comfortable with is the best place to start.
Wishing you well with this next one...
Nikki
