Unexplained headaches and MRI scan

Hello
I recently had an MRI to find out why I am still having a headaches . Had a CT scan and it showed my sinuses were ok.
The headache is mostly between my eyes just above my nose and then sometines to the top of my head

MRI showed white spots so curious as to what the white spots are.
My ENT specialist only saw the report and not the scan and he says scan was ok. I have the scans so he is just going by the report
But I can see white spots on the MRI

Regards
Sally

Re: Unexplained headaches and MRI scan

White spots (lesionsi) can be caused by different things. Headaches (migraines) are one of those. Did the report specify the white spots (foci)? The MRI report would also have a "Impression" which would give you an indication about what was found and possible causes.

There are also different things that can cause headaches:
Certain foods
Caffiene
Hormonal changes
Chocolate
re-bound affect from using over the counter pain relievers
high blood presure
allergies

A CT Scan will help the ENT because the scan looks at the physical levels, but not the neurological levels. Were the white spots, which you indicated, seen by your doctor? Sometimes what we see as white spots is nothing. A trained medical eye can best tell you what to interpret.

Lesions can be caused by many things including viral infections. While lesions do not dismiss the possibility of MS, lesions do not necessarily point to MS. If you want to push forward to resolve the matter, please set-up an appointment with a neurologist to review the MRI report.

A clear CT Scan means that the problem is not visible and may indicate that the problem is neurological.

Re: Unexplained headaches and MRI scan

Also, just because YOU see white spots doesnt mean they arent supposed to be there...an MRI is a picture..and unless you are trained to read them- seeing a white spot, a black spot- even a grey area- isnt usually what we think we are looking at...
I learned a very long time ago NOT to try to read my films...if you have the report, we can sort of help you to understand the terminology behind it and what it means...but honstly, if your doctor said the scan was fine- it probably is.

Re: Unexplained headaches and MRI scan

Hello

I had the MRI as it was done as having headaches which were thought to have been caused by sinuses.
ct scan showed sinuses were clear.

My ENT specialist only had the report as i was given the CD and scan.

I think I will have to see him to ask what the white spots are.

I have headaches every day so am trying to find out what is causing them
Regards
Sally
