Avonex shots and Bruising - Multiple Sclerosis Message Board

I'm in my third month of Avonex shots and although the side effects are getting much better the last couple of shots left small bruises on my thighs, smaller than the eraser on a pencil. With the first several shots I couldn't even tell the next day where the shot was given so was just wondering is the bruising anything to be concerned about? Also, I'm pretty thin so I wonder if it would be better to have my husband give me the shots in the hips rather than doing them in my thighs myself? Thanks!

Nothing to worry about. I hit a vein last time. It bled when I pulled the needle out, now I have a bruise that has lasted almost to my next shot on that side (size of a quarter). If any blood gets under the skin, it will leave a bruise. No worries. I'm glad to hear the side effects are managable for you.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate this healthboard and all your comments. I live in a small rural area and my neuro is three hours away so it really helps to be able to get feedback on things. I was just diagnosed in Feburary and have a lot to learn! Also it's nice to see that a lot of people with MS are still holding down full time jobs, managing families and enjoying life. So much of what I see about it on the internet is negative and discouraging... just the opposite of what I need right now! Thanks again!
