Numbness

Does anyone that has been diagnosed with MS have the problem with going numb in one place but not actually to where you can't feel anything. It just tingles and feels numb. Does this make sense?

Re: Numbness

Yes. It is quite common. I have areas that are in various levels of sensation (numb to partial feeling)...

Re: Numbness

lilc and MSJayhawk,

Thanks for your replies. I started having these symptoms 6 years ago and was going to different neurologist and they all told me it was in my head so I stopped going and I haven't been in about 3 years. I'm going to go back now because it seems like some things are getting worse. I don't want to have MS but it sure would be a relief to find out exactly what is wrong. Thanks so much!

Michelle

Re: Numbness

Actually, Michelle, it is technically in your head! It can be in your head, cervical and thoracic spine... Soooo the next time they say "its in your head" say "Yes, I know, it might also be in my spine, now what are You going to do?" Bad bedside manner is no excuse for not effectively testing and rendering a diagnosis. Stay proactive and go after the situation until you get an answer. When you show the doctor that you are armed with evidence (your journal of symptoms that presented) and up-to-date info on MS and the McDonald Criteria, the doctor will know that you are a patient who will hold him accountable. This world has good and bad doctors, with any luck, you will meet a good doctor who treats you with respect and not an air of dismissal.

Re: Numbness

MSJayhawk,

I like that and I will remember to do that! I can't do people like some doctors do. I have to put myself in that persons place and see if I would want to be treated like that. Do you have problems with indigestion and symptoms that mimick IBS? I'm really having a problem with that right now! It's so nice to be able to talk to people and ask questions because you get a better answer from you all sometimes rather than doctors. I know you all can't diagnose us but it does make us feel better and calms our nerves. So thank you so much!!

Re: Numbness

Michelle, nothing like IBS. One of my previous employees had IBS and I do not think that my condition was ever like her IBS. When I am getting bad (worse than my "normal") I have frequent bowel movements and it does not matter what I eat.

My only problems with food have been that certain foods cause me to gag or choke. I eliminated these foods from my diet by necessity. Drinking ICE cold water has helped me reduce my choking incidents.

Some MSers have constipation problems, but this has never been my problem to date (crossing my fingers....).
