Dear Busybusy....congrats on being a new mom!
Its not unusual for women who DO have MS to relapse after pregnancy...hormonal shifts often cause it to happen. And, its not unusual for things to shift to different parts of the body, or sides of the body- even if its not Post pregnancy...it can happen with MS at any time.
Your question about whether or not your doctor can pick up something different on a MRI is a good question. My Neuro doesnt read reports, only films and when I compare what he says to the radiologist report, its always spot- on...however, your doctor doesnt sound like a MS specialist- does she even have the ability to read a MRI? If she was more voiced in MS- she wouldnt be saying what you wrote- that this has to be in the brain. There is must as much of a chance of a lesion showing up on a spinal MRI, then there is on the brain, and your symtoms suggest that this might be where your lesions are hiding.
If it were me, and I was having the symtoms you are having, Id be taking my films to a MS specialist, or at the very least a good Neuro who has a big practice of MS patients, and getting a second opinion. Now that you are a mom, you need to know why this is happening and only a doctor who is very well versed in MS is going to be able to dx it, or rule it out. Remember too, MRIs can change week to week. What didnt show up 4 months ago, might very well show up now- especially post pregnancy....heat sensitivity is one of the major triggers to feeling lousy. I had to cut my long hair shorter, as the hair dryer was one of my initial signs that something was wrong. Now, I have my hair straightned professionally (keratin) and dont even have to dry my hair with a blowdryer- the heat kills me that badly!
Good luck to you and let us know what you find out.
Nikki
