Question Brain lesions~ MS vs. what?

I had an MRI (no contrast) last week, it showed multiple lesions consistant with MS or another demylating disease. OR neuro Lymes. I had the LP done but am waiting for results. I have symptoms of one side of my face/body getting red and sort of tingling and pain behind my right eye for years (thought it was sinus Headache). I am wondering what these lesions mean, especially if the LP turns up to be negative. Are they still significant? When you have MS, does the burning sensation last for days or continually or could it come and go in a day? My largest lesion is in the subcortical left parietal lobe. Does anyone know of a good anatomy site for the brain? I was wondering what parts do what in the brain/CNS. Thanks for the help? I never do Chat rooms, but am interested in a neurologic type chat room if anyone knows of a good one. Thanks again and good luck to everyone.

Denise

Talking

Hi, I was recently dx with MS in June. Got a second opinion from one of the best hospitals in the U.S. I was questioning the dx because my lumbar puncture was not conclusive that I had MS. The Doctor at this hospital after reviewing my MRI and other test stated that in his opinion I had MS, and that I should start taking Betaseron or Avenox ASAP.

Actually, I was seen by three neurologist because my neurologist was on vacation when my MRI results came back, and I had gotten worse. I go to the Neurology Center in my area, and the doctor who originally dx me is one of the leading doctor in my area, and is very well known. ( Just to let you know that the LP could come back negative and you could be treated for MS)

Although my LP came back negative, the MRI, my symptoms (double vision, could not walk with out assistance, could not hold objects in my left hand, etc), evoke potentials - VEP, and other negative test which could mimic MS stated differently.

I have learn if one of the test (MRI, LP, and evoke potentials) which is used to dx MS does not come back positive you are dx with Probable MS until you get a second exacerbation.

However, my last exacerbation was my second one, the first time I was not dx, but given anti-inflammatory medication which helped sinificantly.

I was fearful of taking Avenox because I had a friend who was on Betaseron. When he first started the medication, he was in so much pain. However, I am taking Avenox and had very little problems taking it other than chills, and I feel like I am 95% back to my old self. I also account this to my faith in God, and my belief in his healing power.

I hope this help.

Ally,

thanks for your reply. Since that posting I now know that my LP was negative and I have been able to pay more attention to my symptoms. I had already been having memory and speech problems and other cognitive difficulties which I did not realize could be a symptom. I am going to the neurologist after Jan 1 as a follow up to the testing I have had done. I did have an abnormal EEG but only mildly - I think! But as for physical symptoms I have not had too many other than the occasional stumble on a flat surface and misjudging door jams. If this does turn out as a diagnosis of MS I feel it is early!! Good luck to you also!
