Time of day for Avonex injection??? - Multiple Sclerosis Message Board

I've been told that the best time of day to give an Avonex injection is just before bed. Another person says that he does it one hour after a well-balanced meal. I would like to hear from others on what works best for them. Thank you very much.

When I was on Avonex, I did it at 2PM on Sundays. This allowed me to feel okay most of the day, and by the time side effects (muscle ache and soreness for me) were kicking in, I could go to bed. This time also allowed the effects to subside before I had to go to work the next day. I also took naproxen sodium (generic Aleve), drank lots of fluids, and avoided alcohol the day of injection. My theory about the alcohol is that it is a diuretic (sp?), thus it dehydrates you and makes the flu like symptoms worse.

When i was on avonex i usually took it at night alomg with two advil hich takes the side affects away.

HI Everyone

My bf gets his injections between 6:30 and 7:00 every Thursday right before dinner. He takes 1 ibupropen afterwards and sometimes has a glass of brandy. If he is having any symptoms he hasn´t mentioned it.

I am curious, you said "when" you took avonex, why did you stop?

I take my Avenox shots aroung 8:00 p.m on Friday nights. I take Tylenol 2-3 hours before the shots, and Tylenol P.M. before I go to bed. I decided to do it on Friday so that I can deal with side effects while I was home from work. The main side effects that I had was a headache the next day. I would take Tylenol again, and it would go away. I started Avenox October 2000, and now I don't have any side effects, but I still take the Tylenol. The nurse told me to continue to take the Tylenol for atleast a year. God Bless!
