I've had neck problems on and off throughout the years, but lately my neck is stiffer than ever and pretty sore. I'm not sure if it's from worry and stress, though, considering the ON I'm having, MRI and finding out that I might possibly have MS. Sometimes it's hard to even hold my head up. How many of you got any relief from a chiropractor? Advil and Motrin aren't cutting it, and neither is warm packs.
I don't think those are very common MS symptoms. They could be MS related though. You could also have MS and something else is causing the neck problems. I've heard of some people saying that chiropractors have helped their MS symptoms. I've also had a doctor tell me that having a chiropractor work on your neck if you have MS is a bad idea as it could affect any MS plaques that you have in that area. It is a tough decision. I think for most MSers who have pain, it is more a burning pain than a throbbing pain. What is yours like? Stiff muscles are common in MS though. For me it is in my legs. You might try a physical therapist before trying a chiropractor.
It feels as if someone pushed down on my head and my neck is jammed. Stiff, sore and uncomfortable. My doctor didn't recommend seeing a chiropractor either, so instead he prescribed Propoxyphene. It didn't really do much for my neck, just made me a little tired. I think a lot of my neck pain might be stress and worrying. But I'm also getting pain throughout my head on occasion, not sure what that is from. Can optic neuritis cause that? Are headaches or head pain common with MS?
I have had neck pain off and on now for about 13 years. I am retired now and it is better so, yes I am sure stress can be a cause. I also held a telephone between my shoulder and ear for long periods at work and that can hurt you. Exercise helps but I am a good one to tell someone else to do it. Turn your head to each side about a hundered times a day and it will help keep it loose. I use to cry with the pain and could hardly sleep. I used sports creams with help me drift off and also I have one of those things you can microwave and put on your neck at bedtime. I think mine is called a "Bed Buddy". I has buckwheat inside it. Also use a lot of hot water during your bath or shower onto your neck. Motin helps me some. Mine is a lot better but it still flares up. Good luck.
