Probable MS?

Hi

It started Sep2008 when I noticed a patch of numbness on my left hand. It went off quickly after taking some alternative medicine. Then there was heavyness in head and twitching of left eye and bouts of weakness on the right hand and leg for which went to a neuro. MRI came out clear so as EEG. Prescribed Neurontin 300mg daily for six months. No improvement and went to another neuro for a second opinion. After some physical & blood examination, which were clear, he prescribed aspirin to take for the rest of the life. Again went to another neuro who said nothing wrong and said could be stress & anxiety due to long hours in front of computers and directed to a Psychiatrist. Now the problem is that I feel something wrong neurologically which is progressing. Eye twitch comes rarely but heavyness in head and weakness on right side persists. Oflate found that right leg and hand numb and cold a few nights. Also pain on the hip downwards on the right leg. MS is something to be diagonized ASAP and medication started. But how? Already seen 3 neuros. Very much worried and concerned. What to do now?

Re: Probable MS?

Welcome to the boards.

I would recommend seeing a neurologist who handles MSers as a specialty. (My neuro does MS and ALS). I think that you will get a better diagnosis. As to the Neurotin, if you still take it, you need to get weaned off of it- do not stop it or you will likely have issues.

While anxiety could very well be the root of your problems, a MS doctor can help you sort it out. Anxiety can often manifest with MS symptoms. If there is indeed anxiety, your neuro will treat that in order to have a better idea of your root problems.

Re: Probable MS?

Hi MSJayhawk.....Thanks for your time and reply. I am seeing a MS Neuro in April first week. As for Neurontin I don't take it now. But I didn't wean off it. Stopped abruptly as adviced by the Psychiatrist and fortunately nothing happened. Thanks once again.

Re: Probable MS?

There are allot of people just like you.
I have been going to the doctors for almost four years. I first had burning feeling on skin, so I went to dermatologist. They gave me cream which made the problem worse. I went to other dermatologists and eventually to a university doctor who said that it's not the skin. Years went by and my anxiety went up. I finally decided to go to a Neuro when my hands went numb. He did various tests and concluded that I had Carpal tunnel. Then the MRI showed that I have 3 disks crimping my spinal cord. The doctor said that there is no signs of MS and that the spinal stenosis can explain everything.
I don't know if I am better off with this or MS. I know that sounds horrible but my problems are getting worse and there is no treatment. The operation is extremely risky and the prognosis isn't that good.
My brother has MS and has had it for over 20 years. He can't always feel things but he still skis and does everything he wants to.
