The holidays are kicking my behind

This past week has been a real struggle. I have had on and off days where the fatigue has gotten really bad. Because of that I have been really dizzy. I got a little extra sleep the last 2 days and was feeling better but this afternoon is I'm dragging. I feel like I still have so much left to do and I just don't have the energy for it. Hopefully the kids take a long nap and give me a break. Wish me luck.

Re: The holidays are kicking my behind

As soon as my chaperone duties were done with the last college final, fatigue hit me too. The past three days I have been on a roller-coaster of energy drops. On Wednesday I awoke full of energy and an hour later I was napping. I slept for 3 hours, woke up, and an hour later I slept again.

It is important to not let it get you down. You might need to ask for some help if your little ones need adult supervision.

The holidays hit at the same time most of the country is shifting seasons into winter. It is no better south of the equator where fellow MSers are shifting into the heat of summer. It is something most MSers go through. You need some "me time" to unwind. The stress from family, weather, etc. all combine to hit us heavily.

Stay strong and indulge in some guilt-free "me time".

Re: The holidays are kicking my behind

Hi Reenie from Kearney! Welcome! We are practically neighbors! I live 1/2 hour from Kearny...

Holiday time is always stessful, healthy or not. How long have you been dx with MS? Is this your first holiday dealing with this? Usually it gets easier the longer you have the disease; however, you never really get a handle on the stress factor of the holidays.

We started a new tradition in my house. On Christmas Eve- starting around noon, I have an open house. I cook up a storm making things like meatballs, lasange, and all kinds of fish dishes- not to mention a ton of picky food. This year, I even ordered a honey baked ham. Christmas day, we say "no thank you " to all invitations. Its too much. No one wants to drive , do the holiday thing with extended family- and especially me. I go all out for one day out of the year and then plead the MS fatigue excuse on Christmas Day. I get up - open presents with the kids, and go back to bed! By noon, im ready for leftovers! It really does help preserve my fragile energy level overall.

I hope that you have a happy holiday nonetheless...and welcome to healthboards!
