Help Please I think I have mutiple sclerosis

Sorry I wrote alot but I think I have mutiple sclerosis and I dont know what to do.

<Removed disallowed subject>

I have gained alot of weight (50 lbs) becuase I would smoke spice and eat anything I see. I am still active in sports and Im going to go back to my goal of building my body and losing weight now since I eat normally. I have gone to the emergency room a couple times the past month, once becuase I had an extreme painfull experiance all of a sudden in my stomach / abs. I get this extreme musle spasm pain more than a few times a year, especially if I play alot of sports and sweat aot. I have also been addicted to weight loss pills / energy pills for more than a few years but recently stopped taking all those pills becuase I dont want to deal with the muscle spasm pain anymore. I have gone to my personal doctor, the ER doctors, Muscle doctor, they all did tests on me and said I was fine but I dont believe them and actually went to tears becuase no one has answer for me and now I think I know what I have. After reading the sympoms I have a quite of few of whats listed in multiple sclerosis. I have taken a prescription drug to help with weight loss called topamax, I also have stopped taking this to help avoid with the severe musle spasms. It helped a little. I take medication everyday at night called respiridol becuase I was in anger management when I was a teenager and a doctor told me I have a chemical imbalace. Im going to see my doctor soon and hes probably going to say that in normal like the other doctors told me. I did a brain scan and a scan on my lungs becuase I was concered and they said I was fine. Heres some of the symptoms of multiple sclerosis that I can tell you guys I have.

Loss of balance

Muscle spasms

Numbness or abnormal sensation in any area

Constipation

Strong urge to urinate

mother has weird rapid eye movements

Painful muscle spasms

Depression or feelings of sadness

Dizziness and balance problems

Slurred or difficult-to-understand speech

Problems with erections

yet all the doctors say im perfectly fine, I though about calling a news tv company but I really dont want to be on tv and I found this website which I hope will help me.

Im sorry for writing so much but I seriously need some good advice

First off with the Topamax I have MS and I take that for my headaches so if you go back on that it might help. When you get numb in some areas does it go away or does it stay with you? Have you ever had a brain MRI or a spine MRI?

I have recently had a brain and I think a spine mri also and results were fine, the pain hurts so much I cant explain. Last time I had the pain in my stomach it felt like my abdominal was going to explode out of my stomach, usually the muscle jumps out and you can see it and its also uncontrolable and sometimes shifts from one area to another area of the stomach. If I sit down a certain way or exercise my abs it happens also. Right now I feel something going on like rumbling which is usually not a good sign with me. I have had a machine where mutple things attached sticked to my body to monitor the muscles or nerves and they said it was fine. They only told me to drink water or gaterade. I have had similar uncontrollable spasms in my leg, neck, fingers, but dont last as long as stomach and not as painfull but still scary.

It doesn't sound like MS to me other wise it would be something with the nerves. It sounds more like there is something going on with your muscles. I hope you find out something soon. If it were MS they would have found lesions on your brain and/or your spain.

That is true. But also keep in mind that the lesions do not always show themselves right away. It could be that your just showing symptoms and the lesions have not appeared yet.

Did they do the MRIs with contrast? Because that is something that is typically used to help better detect lesions on the brain MRI. Also, I'd be sure to have your MRIs in like 6 months just to be sure. My first brain MRI showed nothing but 4 months later they found a mark.

Overall though if your MRI does not show anything it is unlikely to be MS. Did they run blood tests to check for lymes and low vitamin lvls etc? That is something they should have done before MRIs, and if not be sure to have those done. Both vitamin deficiency (B or D) and lymes can cause symptoms you describe. They are quick and easy to test for too.

Good luck and hope you find answers soon!

Re: Help Please I think I have mutiple sclerosis

Someoneinfl,

I feel awful for you because you are obviously in distress, but the chances of this being MS are so very slight....are you clear on what MS is? Its not a musclular disorder. Its a disorder of the central nervous system and it affects the spine, brain and eyes...

Your list of symtoms is not very specific and you didnt clearly understand that the list of symtoms you wrote, when a MS patient has them, they do not come and go....and you would not be able to work out or do the things you claim you are doing. Our symtoms are not muscular because of the muscles, our symtoms are nerve related, which affect the muscles. Our bathroom issues are chronic and things like constipation and urinatin frequency are listed on over 2000 differnt illnesses.
In fact, the chances of actually having MS are one in 400. There are 400 diseases which present like MS.

Everyone here gave you some good advice and its perfectly true that unless you have had an MRI with and without contrast of the brain and spine, and unless they have checked you for things like vitamin deficiencies and other infections, there is no way anyone is going to agree you have MS at this time. Doctors in the US use what is called the Revised McDonald Criteria to diagnose MS and you might want to read up on it before you start calling news crews...because if they cant duplicate what the criteria says they need to see, then they are doing the right thing by ruling out MS... it can take many years to get a MS dx, so if you truly believe that you have it, I suggest that you see a MS specialist, and prepare yourself for test after test every six months...after two years, if nothing shows up, they will dismiss you and tell you who might be better able to help.

I know you are frustrated, but you do NOT want a MS dx unless the doctors are sure..and the doctors are protecting you by not automatically saying that you have this disease, especially if your tests are not showing anything. I truly hope you get your answers soon.

Nikki

Re: Help Please I think I have mutiple sclerosis

Welcome.

Frustration and worry can be daunting and it can bring with it MS like symptoms. If you suspect you have MS, Dr. Internet can lead to misdiagnoses as well as adding to your frustrations and anxiety. You need to distance yourself from your worries.

If your GP has checked you and you have discussed your trepidation with him, then he can order some initial tests which can help classify your concerns. That is, your GP can determine if your problems are neurogenic. If they are, then you can be referred to an MS Specialist if MS is a possibility. The nice thing about running through the Revised McDonald Criteria is that if you have something other than MS, it will show up and you can be referred to another specialist.

You have a 1:400 chance of having MS if you have MS like Symptoms. Breathe easy and work proactively with your doctor.

I'm sorry to digress, but I feel I have to dispel the ever repeated myth of 1:400 chance of having MS that is so popular on this forum. It is not true, because you are not taking incidence into account. Those 400 diseases don't have equal incidence, therefore the chance cannot be 1:400.

Lets just keep saying that all those diseases have to be ruled out before one can be tagged with MS.
