bugs?

I seem to be getting one bug after another. I had a sickness bug last month and then on tuesday i had pains in my neck, sore throat, frontal headaches, foggy head, sweating, nose is bunged up and aching etc. I was starting to feel sightly better but each time i get a bug it sets me back again. My head is awful again,it felt like inside of the left side of my head was burning last night in bed and my head feels off balance and i can't think straight again. I get my mri on the 30th of may and see a neurologist on the 17th of june to discuss the results.

Re: bugs?

Zipster,

If you are dealing with an autoimmune system on the fritz, you might be in the queue for more bugs depending on how your system is working. For some with MS, the autoimmune system is "whacking" every little bug that rears up.

One thought to consider is your primary and secondary environments to see whether there are any molds or fungi present or some chemical or allergen present. I know a couple of people who were sick all the time and there problems were within their home environment. I am not saying this is your case, but it is something that needs to be reviewed too.

Re: bugs?

Zipster,

When I feel a "bug" coming, I will take 3000 - 5000 mg of vitamin C each day (divided into 3- 4 times) and continue taking them until the "feeling" has passed. I do not take vitamin C all the time because I do not want my immune system to remain in overdrive all the time. MS is a result of autoimmune overdrive. I have taken the vitamin C regiment 4 times in 5 years. The only change I have made is switching to chewable C because of swallowing issues.

Re: bugs?

Zipster,
You really do NOT want to take anything that stimulates the immune system, especially ecchinchia or any other herbs.....having MS means a compromised immune system- by taking something that stimulates it, you risk being in a perpetual state of relapse. Not a good place to be.

You do need to identify why you are getting sick. It could be enviornmental as Jayhawk suggested. It can also be caused by allergies- and not a bug. It can be caused by constantly coming in contact with sick people. I actually work with sick people every day of my life and have built up major immunities! But, in the beginning, was always sick.....now, I havent gotten sick in years.

Vitamin C wont hurt you if you take it when something is coming on- but you dont want to take that high a dose every day. All you need is either a healthy diet, or a healthy diet and a good multi vitamin- you dont want to load up on supplements and vitamins unless your doctor takes blood and suggests you are deficient. Ask your doctor about running some blood work. Things like Mono- a virus, can make you feel sick for months- and there is nothing that can be done about it. Nothing works on viruses- however could you have been exposed? 1 out of 4 people are exposed every day. Not everyone gets it; but again, we have compromised immune systems to begin with.

Talk to your doctor about running some blood work- rule out everything and then concentrate on staying away from sick people. Take extra precautions to wash your hands 3 times an hour- and hope for the best.

Nikki

Re: bugs?

Zipster,

Other than my legs, the predominant pain I have daily is in my head- literally! For me it is MS related pain and something to which I have slowly built tolerances, but which I also battle daily with either my dark chocolate or my Diet Dr. Pepper. My third pain is via light sensitivity and hits my right eye. This has ceased to be but a rarity as I make daily use of my sunglasses or on occasion an eye patch.

An MS Specialist can help you delve into your particular situation, but I would certainly encourage a healthy home check. An inspection can be quite revealing, and if it is 'clean" you can put the burden upon your doctor to figure out!

do u take daily fish oils? many research shows they are beneficial for immune system and brain and eyes ( even a friend of mine did a phd on this) .. i v read doctors in autoimmune disorders prescribe small amounts of selenium. zinc is also important ( not too much as it brings hair loss). what else? ... i also read 'green tea' is good for immune system. I sometimes take detox juice and it is really helpful when i used to feel i m about to get sick (juice of: apple, carrot, beetroot, celery, ginger).
