49th Birthday Blues!

Well yesterday I turned 49 ... one more year in the 40's! My sweet husband tried his best to make it a special day for me and I tried so hard to be happy mostly for HIM!

Unfortunately, I was in quite a bit of pain as I have been now ... and it has been getting progressively worse each day ... for well over a month now. Also the excruciating fatigue! We managed to go out for a nice lunch ... he brought me home a card and cake in the morning and took 1/2 day off of work to be with me! After lunch we did a bit of shopping then I was SPENT! Physically and mentally. I then came home cried and got in bed. It seems that the only thing that helps much any more is to just cry and get it out!

Well, don't mean to be a downer but I know most everyone here understands these types of days! I go back for another MRI (first with my MS specialist) the end of this month. Very anxious to see what this one shows.

Just rambling on here! Sorry!

Hugs to all!

Re: 49th Birthday Blues!

Thank you, JayHawk! I have been trying to stay as cool as possible! Our AC has been over-working and going on the fritz now and then. We bought a window unit for our downstairs office - turned resting room and for our upstairs master bedroom! Our electricity bill is ginormous but have no choice! I also sleep with a stand-up fan aimed right at me and the overhead ceiling fan on. Usually wake up frozen stiff (lol) but I have to have it to sleep!!!

I only go outdoors to either spend a little time in our small pool which still wears me out ... and go outside late each afternoon to water my flowers and plants. Other than that I stay inside! I cannot tolerate the heat AT ALL! If I even pick up something in the house and carry it to another part of the house, I break a sweat and have to rest. It is disgusting how drained the heat makes me!

Thanks so much for the birthday greeting! We are very close in age, aren't we?

Re: 49th Birthday Blues!

Whimpurr,

You sound like you have been peeking at my symptom journal! My thermostat is at 79 F because the whole family has to survive. I use a pedestal fan and a ceiling fan at night and during the day as needed. Our electric bill will be higher, but I drive less; therefore, lower gas bill pays the electric bill. Back in the days before car A/C, we had fans in the car our in the house blow over a cooler of ice. It works pretty well.

I do my watering in the garden before 10 AM. I use raised bed gardens and mulch to reduce water. Our house is an earthberm house which allows stability. The neighborhood cats and the swallows hang out here all summer long.

Yes we are close in age, but you can tell me neener-neener because I am still older

Re: 49th Birthday Blues!

Whimpurr,
Happy Birthday.....and chin up. The heat is driving us all insane. I stopped by my neuros office the other day to say hello (hes on my sales route) and he told me that he has been swamped with patients who think they are all relapsing...and its all heat related. It really does suck the life out of us! Im feeling it too, but doing my best to stay in the a/c and ignore it. Believe it or not, as time (the years) go by, you learn to deal with this and not stop it from living your life..

Sounds like your husband did a really nice job trying to celebrate and give you a nice day. Kudos to him!
Hugs<

Re: 49th Birthday Blues!

Happy birthday! I agree with the others...the heat this summer seems to be a real pain...literally...for many of us. I have struggled more this year with it than years before and as the 90's are predicted for next week, I have changed all of the plans I had made. I go out and do what yard work I can by 10am and am in the rest of the day until the sun is down past the tree line. Even then I can only take it for about an hour or so. The cold water in the pool or shower, while startling at first, helps a great deal afterward.

Look at it this way... you got out of bed, got ready and got out of the house! Some days, for some of us, that is quite a feat and you did it. That in and of itself is something to smile about. The tears are completely understandable and there is nothing wrong with it. We all have a pressure relief valve and for some of us, tears are the only way to let it out. ;-)

I turn 50 in September and I can say I am looking forward to all of the discounts that AARP and other places will start giving me! There is something to be said for reaching certain milestones in life. LOL

Wishing you better days ahead.
