News on MYO-029 - Muscular Dystrophy Message Board

The MYO-029 thread was getting rather long so I thought I'd post this development here.

It not great news. The MDA website issued two recent statements. On 03-11-08 it issued "Wyeth Won't Develop MYO-029 for MD" and on 03-17-08 it issued "Studies Shed More Light on Myostatin Blocking".

These can be found on the MDA site under Research News. Both articles are long so I'll let you read them rather than give any details here. But the March 17th article held promise. Myostatin Blocking is still in the works. Just not the drug MYO-029. They speak of a newer drug "follistatin" that holds a bit of promise. The article explains it all.

Sorry to be the bearer of not-so-good-news but there's still a lot of hope. I've always felt that stem cells and gene therapy hold the most promise and would actually CURE the disease not just fix the symptoms.

hello, my name is David, i am from REBUBLIC OF GEORGIA, i have broather with FSHD. i have any questions:
1. On which stage is the medicine concerning therapy of FSHD disease? As far as I know some yaers ago there were testing some medicine on mice, and in the gene engineering there was some progress concerning this issue. I don't know if there was created any medicine that can treat the FSHD disease completely or partially? Or is there any therapy course that can be really effective?
2. Was there any precedent of recovering from FSHD disease, even for one people, completely or partially by using of any medicine or therapy course? In recovering I mean even slight progressive changes in patient's body concerning muscle system synthesis and actvation, after which the patient will be able to move independently, though hardly but still able, or by using of crutch?
