I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in '96. There was a test done recently that found 2 out of 63 people that were previously diagnosed with fms actually had Myotonic Dystrophy type 2. Since I had an Aunt and Uncle on fathers side that were in wheel chairs by early 20's from muscular dystrophy, this article caught my eye. Info?

I've collected data on every known type of muscular dystrophy; 70 types to date. I don't have a whole lot on this one but here's what I have:

MD Type: Myotonic DM2
Also called: DM2
Inheritance: Dominant
Gene mutation: Zinc Finger Protien
Gene Location: 19q21
Avg Age at Onset: 8-60

The bit of good news is that the "bad" gene mutation and the gene location for this type is known. In my case we dont know the bad gene that causes my MD. (I'm a 47 year old Caucasian male)

Count me as one of those 2!! Although I have been diagnosed with Limb-Girdle MD. I spent many years being treated for FMS, but a very astute neurosurgeon examined me and said it was some kind of MD, and insisted I have a full workup by a neurologist.
