Student with M.D. - Muscular Dystrophy Message Board

I teach 3rd grade and just recently got a student with Muscular Dystrophy. He's 9 years old and hyperactive. He's a nice little guy, and has the MD that is the lesser debilitating of the two. Can anyone tell me what I can expect of this child....what his limitations are?

well, I actually have a friend who has that, and she has a VERY hard time walking and her muscle arent very good. Hope it helps. I am sure you already knew that stuff though.

Hi my name is Joel and I have muscular Dystrophy but unlike most of the people that you either come in contact with the disease most of the time(about 95%) no one can tell that I have the disease unless you know me. their are about 250 different types of this disease. I guess I just wanted to let you know that I know it might be hard to deal with this child and his disease but if you treat him like any other child you teach and maybe even find out which type of the disease he has your bond with this child might grow because you will be able to understand what he deals with daily as he is learning to deal with it everyday also.well thanks for the ear.

Hi Joel,
Thanks for taking the time to write. I've had Jerry for almost 3 months now, and have bonded with this child. He's a pretty normal child...just a little hyperactive, and yet controllable. I've learned what makes Jerry "tick," so to say. I was told to treat him just like any other child. I do. He's a neat child. I wish him, you, and all the other people with autoimmune diseases the best of luck. By the way, I was diagnosed with MS 9 months ago.
